At least FINALLY there is a radio job ad that tells the truth! (And three misspellings to boot!)

THE HOSTS OF THE VARIOUS RADIO SHOWS ON WKIT RARELY LEAVE BECAUSE THEY FEAR CHANGE, ARE SPOILED BY WORKING HERE AND WHEN THEY DO LEAVE….DISSAPEAR INTO OBSURITY…OR ARE FOUND WEEKS LATER…FACE DOWN IN THEIR OWN FILTH….YET SOMEHOW…IT’S HAPPENED AGAIN. I was one of the ones that left and "Dissapeared into obsurity". I'm doing one overnight a week in the Portland area now, so I still exist on the airwaves. It's voicetracked though. Doesn't get much more obsure than that...or is that obscure?

Sorry, had to pick on them! In reality, working for WKIT was one of the greatest gigs ever. You get lots of freedom to be creative on the air, you get to put lots of funny drunks on the radio and play requests, and Bobby is a great guy to work for. Hey, at least they are still having the problem of people stealing food from the fridge, now I'm ruled out as a suspect!

it's not a pretty picture here at home, regardless of the industry. radio has been a leader in the job-consolidation market owing to newer technologies that allow for multi-station operation with the same number of people it used to require to run one. the fact that a local broadcast entity is advertising for help is a positive one. most places are no longer replacing the dearly departed - they're simply asking one of the remaining (survivors?) to step up and take over. you've already experienced a taste of this just doing your thing "over there." ("over there" utilized as Double-L-Double-S - Loose Lips Sink Ships)

that said - the aforementioned website (in your post), and others like it, has helped to keep some radio people afloat in these very uncertain economic times. and a note i received from one of our former board-buddies indicated that it was the mention of that site which led to his dismissal from this forum.

walk a mile in our shoes when you finish your service. the winks and grins will be hard to come by. i know ( i think ) you were trying to positive about the basic idea of advertising which is frequency and reach. say it often, say it to as many as possible, enjoy results.

but the general tone of your post was initially interpreted by me as a "dig" and not an "attaboy."

I am all too aware of this, which is why I abandoned commercial radio for a solid, steady paycheck in the military. That doesn't mean my heart doesn't bleed over the decision regularly. I absolutely agree with you on the optimism for help wanted postings, by the way.

I find myself in the unusual position of being on everybody's side on this one. I totally sympathize with "grover" with his lack of deserved employment, and also support his quest to find income in any manner possible. That being said, I also feel that his persistent messages also screamed "free-advertising" which is something I also sympathize with on the site's behalf, but feel that it may have been handled in a better manner (incidentally, by both Joe and Radio-Info.com).

I understand Radio-Info's need to protect their boards from flagrant advertisements (which by the way, worked as was demonstrated by my quip and plug for his site), and also because I sympathize with Joe, by mentioning it again when he no longer can (I assume) was a way of supporting him in his absence. (Figured I could get away with it once.) At the same time, although I can't vouch for any behind-the-scenes messaging that Radio-Info may have done with Joe, it seems that if Radio-Info was equally sympathetic to Joe as I am, they would have issued a warning before ex-communicating him, if that is indeed the case. I would then have entrusted Joe to lay off the site plugs if he wished to continue to post. Or found a way to circumvent the system, say by utilizing the classified section that Radio-Info purposely set up for this occasion and perhaps link to his post there, which contains the link to his services, or by utilizing the website block in his profile that the site provides.

Due to a lack of knowledge of how things transpired, I cannot place blame on one side or the other, but have to lean towards Joe because he should have known the eventual outcome, that is, if he desired to use radio-info.com for more than just a vehicle for his employment. Ironically, if the site is used properly, you are in effect selling yourself using the viewpoints you prescribe to. I don't think that Joe should be banned forever, though. His heart I believe is in the right place, just down on his luck (and perhaps a little down on life because of his misfortune which is certainly understandable). I would push for the site to reinstate him once I know for sure that he was banned.

You are correct. My one and only true 100% dig was on naysayers of radio advertising. And in this light, if I should ever decide I need imaging done for my show, and Joe's price is right, he's the first person I will think of.

I'm afraid that this occurred because the poster before me had a very sarcastic tone, of which I played off of and probably shouldn't have. So I extend my apologies for this. However, since my initial posting, it is rather odd that post got removed and mine didn't. I wonder if maybe there is some sympathy behind the scenes at R-I? : :-\
