Which decade was better in your opinion for popular music: 00s or 10s?

I grew up in the 00s and would say it has "higher highs" (some of the soft rock of the decade) but lower lows (some of the rhythmic material wasn't great and some of the pure pop like Pussycat Dolls and Ashley Simpson could be forgotten). The 10s were generally more consistent and thought the indie and uptempo pop could probably stand the test of time better, though there was quite a bit I did not care for, but enjoyed the dance music. What do you think?

I think you have an obsessively narrow focus when it comes to musical taste. For some reason, you can't seem to understand the concept of broadcasting to a larger audience than just KCKC, Kansas City.

I listen to songs from the late 60s-90s as well though and some other styles of music.

I listen to all sorts of music. Yet, I tend to fall back on what’s familiar to me and it does go in cycles. Lately, I’ve been exploring different online stations. Right now this station caught my attention:

Even though it’s a Classic Hits station, they are currently mixing non stop current freestyle music.

Sounds interesting!

I think because of Irving Berlin and ragtime music I’d choose the 1910s over the 1900s! 😉
Take Me Out to the Ball Game was first recorded in '08. That alone cemented the '00s as one of the greatest decades in music. :ROFLMAO:

So now your alliance is to "baseball and beer"? Maybe it's a seasonal thing....⚾

How early? 🙄

I personally feel 2009-2013 was a VERY strong period for pop music and I enjoyed a lot of the EDM influenced tracks. CHR was on fire and there was never a dull moment, I feel like it peaked in summer 2011 pop/CHR wise.

But it depends on the genre, really. CHR was too hip hop influenced for me in the 2000s, but Hot AC was better then than in the 10s. For pop and alternative, I feel the 10s were better overall. IMO CHR from about 2009 until the current doldrums we’re in now was the strongest the format had been in a long time, at least since the great 90s fragmentation. By 2012-2014, you had alternative crossing over, hot AC tracks crossing over, and still had strong pop hits and EDM influenced pop. There was good variety and the music sort of had the same consensus. That balloon started deflating around 2017 or so, although some tracks like “Feel It Still” were still crossing over.

Sadly, I feel like with everybody listening to Spotify now, that may have been CHR’s last hurrah on terrestrial radio. Just glad I was part of it and able to enjoy it 🥲

Pop music since 1985. with very few exceptions, has been absolute crap. But you want decent dance music? Dial up the Big Band era.

Pop music had several peaks. Early to mid 80s, some good pop hits in the 90s, and a lot of them during the early 2010's.

But that's just my personal taste.
