Which formerly lovable TV hero became too much of a jerk?

How about Andy Kauffman? He started as the lovable "foreign man" and then as Latka on Taxi, but later evolved into a rather bizzare character.

Even nice guys have tantrums once in awhile. For example, I've always heard Casey Kasem is a nice guy, though you could probably find detractors.
