I have heard the THE SOUND @ 100.3 FM in Los Angeles will be recreating the Legendary KMET this Friday (July 10) for One Day. I am curious, If there was One Historic Legendary Radio Station In The Bay Area That You'd Like To Revive For One Day, Which Station Would It Be? The Underground Freeform KMPX? or The Big Band Version Of KMPX? Or The Original World's Greatest Radio Station KSFO? Or The Original KOME? Or Boss Radio KYA? So Iam Am Curious, Which Radio Station Would It Be?
There are recordings of most of these stations during their heydays: KSFO, KFRC, KYA, KMPX, etc., even KDIA, KSOL 1450, KKIS, and even KWUN.
What I'd like to hear are earlier radio: KROW, KLX, KPO, KFRC during the Don Lee days (and when my mom was a soap opera actress there). My mom used to talk at length about the wonderful shows, network and local on these stations.
I came along at the end of the era. I vaguely remember hearing "Gunsmoke" on KCBS, some kind of soap on KNBC when I was maybe 2 or 3 years old (I remember the organ playing more than anything). About the only part of the oldtime era I clearly remember was "76 Party Time" with the live remotes from the Fairmont, Sir Francis Drake, and some other hotel, with half-hour remotes every Saturday night featuring George Liberace, Ted Fiolrito, Ernie Heckscher, etc. on KNBR.
THAT is the kind of stuff I'd like to hear. The rest is already available.
