Which station do you listen to for hip hop? KPWR or KRRL?

I listen to Real 92.3 more than Power now because Real gives you new music to instead of the stale burn outs that Power play. They also actually play throwbacks from to time. I gave up Power when they got rid of DJ Felli Fell earlier this year. What are your thoughts? Feel free to chime in peeps.

Peace,

Brandon1993

None of the above, but then I am way outside the target demo. 🙄

I think just about everyone listens to Real over Power now
I have to agree with you on that one. 10 years ago before Big Boy left, the station was still kicking butt in the ratings. Almost a decade later, Power 106 is now a shell of its former self. The final nail on the coffin was when Felli Fell left in earlier this year.

Stick a fork in power 106. They’re done. But, there’s nothing else the station can reasonably flip to. So power will be stuck with 1 shares for eternity

I'm also way way out of the demo but the few times I've tuned in I've found the djs on Real 92.3 to be better and more professional. The djs on Power sound like they should be working at McDonalds.

You got that right. I tried listening to Power but it’s not the same without Felli Fell. I listen to The Cruz Show on 92.3 in the afternoon.

It's been strange to watch the rise of Real 92.3 over the past decade or so— while simultaneously watching what's been happening at Power 106. Under Emmis, Power 106 was rock solid. And I had hoped a committed local-ish owner like Murelo would see KPWR as a "crown jewel" and really put some effort into it.

I'm now learning that "local owner" doesn't mean *good* local owner. A lot of noobs have no idea how to run a radio station and the mediocrity spills onto the air. (Similarly, a local company called Broadway Media ended up with KUUU "U92" — the "Power 106" for Salt Lake City and subsequently ran it into the ground. So no, sometimes local isn't better it turns out).

It seems like yesterday when Real signed on. Damn I can’t believe that it’s been almost 10 years already. I was 21 at the time and Real 92.3 won me over because they didn’t play a lot of pop leaning titles that Power was playing at the time. I also remember seeing billboards all around LA with the “Big Boy Moved” campaign. This came almost a decade since KKBT went off the air thanks to Radio One. After a few months since it signed on, I’ve noticed that Power dropped the rhythmic pop and slowly started to lean more urban again and increased the throwbacks for a while.

I used to listen to Power 106 a bit more, but ever since they dropped 90s throwbacks, I'm firmly more on Real 92.3 now. KDAY is better than both of course.

Same here. I listen to Real 92.3 and KDAY for my hip hop fix. Real plays the hottest new hip hop along with the occasional 90’s/early 2000’s hip hop title.

I personally like 94.7 better the soul of southern California. Aren't they both going after the same audience?

The wave seems to be a little more uptempo. And I noticed on Friday at 5 102.3 will delve into politics for awhile in a fun way with people calling in. I assume the wave has a much better signal for there numbers are much better!

I listen to both KJLH and The Wave. Sure they play some of the same music but The Wave is more pop oriented than KJLH.

I didn't mind that Power 106 playing was pop-leaning and EDM titles, but at the same time, LA was craving a true Urban station, so it's good that Real sounded like a resurrected version of KKBT rather than becoming a Rhythmic-leaning copy of Power 106.
