Which station do you listen to for hip hop? KPWR or KRRL?

I didn't mind that Power 106 playing was pop-leaning and EDM titles, but at the same time, LA was craving a true Urban station, so it's good that Real sounded like a resurrected version of KKBT rather than becoming a Rhythmic-leaning copy of Power 106.
You got that right. We were without a true urban for almost a decade when KKBT went to an Urban AC direction because it was in a crowded field at that time.

Yeah LA was missing a current based urban when Power was playing pop titles in 2009-2014. You’re right, Real is a resurrected version of The Beat.

I’ve been switching back and forth between Real 92.3, Power 106 and KDAY as of late for hip hop. Power has truly sold out compared to Real and KDAY.

I take that as a sign that Pio is trying to establish KPWR as separate from KDAY, which is consistent with my earlier statements (in several threads) that one of the urban/hip-hops in the Meruelo cluster (93.5, 93.9, 105.9) needs to go in a different direction. When a single owner has stations that cannibalize (as opposed to complementing) each other's audience, that is counterproductive to sales.

You’re welcome. Big Boy is better than Power 106’s morning show.

Big Boy has always been a talented on-air personality. In addition to such honors as twice winning the NAB's Marconi Award, among other honors, he has a laundry list of movie cameo appearances, and his morning show is also syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks (also owned by iHeart, KRRL's owner).

You got that right @K.M. Richards. He has been a fixture on hip hop radio since the mid 90’s and I admire that he has longevity in the business.
