Which stations still have the flavor of South Carolina

Which stations still have the flavor of South Carolina and why do they. Is it good DJ's, good music, good formats, good programing or what. Are they big boy stations or mom and pops or something in between. There are no right or wrong answers here just opions so let me know which stations you think are good sounding stations. Let me know if they sound like South Carolina or not and whats good about them.

Here in the GSP...there is what we had, and now, what we are/have been forced to settle for. As I have said before, I recharge my ipod-like device outta self-defense! I also had several thumb drives, and what I refer to as my "Big Toe" drive; 32-GB. As to answer the question, WESC is barely hanging on as SC/Home flavor. I really don't listen to alot of Country music, as most of it makes my hair hurt, due to it just being products of the industry;...failed Pop acts. However, if it wasn't for Charlie Munson & "Long John" Landrum, the answer to this topic would be...We have none! Due to an (alledged)budget cut, they(CC) let both Roger Davis, and John Crenshaw go. Over in the minus collum...loosing one of the most credible Newscasters to ever crack a Live mic. "John Boy" Crenshaw's level of Air Talent stands without question! Heritagewise, it has always netted high ratings, and sometimes even higher Billing. Though they(CC) pump all the helium into WSSL, WESC floats beside, and contiues to hold its own. It is a true "Hometowner". Just imagine it being owned by two independent investors, with both a full Air, and Sales staff....
Boggles the mind, ...Don't it!

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to see which stations still remind you of South Carolina but it looks like nobody cares except scooter.

Having only been a state resident since 1999 it would be hard to weigh in on the topic in any great depth.

However I will say that WGOG in Walhalla does old time community radio, so I suppose that means it has the flavor of SC. They do swap shop, read the obits...you name it.

I moved to upstate SC in 1976, at that time WFBC-FM was the hot thing , with Monty and Scott Shannon, even Mr Dohickey doing weather, maybe news too, it seemed like anything that was going on in the upstate you could find out on that show, great times gone by, it was South Carolina Flavor at its best

I think WBCU(AM 1460 FM 103.5) in Union (30 miles southeast of Spartanburg) closely reflects its community. All aspects considered it's probably one of the most successful small town stations in America.

Station has huge loyalty from its community, a big audience level and strong sales...always has despite a limited signal.

Unless those "independent investors" are rich radio geeks, who aren't interested in a return on their investment, I doubt you'd get both a full air and sales staff. In fact, you're probably better off staff-wise under the current ownership. It's been my experience that the words "rich" and "radio geeks" aren't often used together in a sentence.

Big A which corporation stations still have hometown or area sound. Doesnt matter where they are just wondering if the big boys still have some running with local sound.

What do you mean by "local sound?" Playing only locally produced music?

If you mean local DJs, quite a few.

1500 WZZQ / 104.3 W282AX here in Gaffney is pretty much a carbon copy of the old 105.3 WAGI
and locally focused on the community. It's similar to WBCU in Union with programming and music.

Well,...after reading all of TheBigA's Horse Manure, it's time for me to weigh-in again,...as only I can! I don't know which is worse...to only have a few local minded/programed stations or to have some Bonehead ask questions, as if he doen't know what one is. Pair-up, those questions, and a mirror....there! Whatever feeds your Narcisum better. In this market, we have very little "Local" anything. Regarding CC's THE ROAD, one of their alleged "Prime Choice" stations. Allegedly, the best songs, hosted by the Alleged best National Air Talent. HORSE MANURE! Ken Dashell!...nothing could be further from the truth! To me, Mark Hendrix is the best that WROQ has to offer. I concider him very impressive; on the air. Stoneman, a close second, but he's been playing that short/burnt playlist for so long, he has become complacent. ....and who was that Awww-ful female they had on the air (yesterday)Sunday afternoon? Who (what PD) would willingly allow that on the air....who do we award the trophy to? Even Zach & Marne aren't that bad. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh!

I guess the concept of a rhetorical question is beyond you. As if you don't know what one is.
