Who is the crappiest radio company with stations in Atlanta?

At least Cumulus doesn't appear to shoot themselves in the foot with every "business" decision, like Clear Channel does.
ie: Planet Radio?

Can't we move on? Planet Radio was a horrible blunder by Jacor in 1997, before Clear Channel. The individuals involved were properly beaten and should be running Tribune radio soon. Meanwhile, the Clear Channel Atlanta management team has turned over more times than OJ's legal council. They don't even know about it.

Sadly, I would have to agreee with Stillatit: CBS. It was once a great company to work for before Mel Karmazin. Now it's locally managed poorly by a guy that has no interest other than counting the cash from V103. What he did to the Z93 staff and his mismanagement of dave should be a crime. It should have been an outstanding station.

Wadda ya mean "a poor manager??" That guy at CBS Atlanta has lots 'o cash to count....that makes him a GOOD manager. If Rick Caffey can make DAVE just HALF as successful as V103 then he will be fitted for RadioGawd robes at CBS.
Let's wait and see what theses guys have up their sleeve. If the new morning show clicks then DAVE may "get well."

He inherited the legendary V103 and has kept it successful while trying to keep his hosts out of jail to moderate success. I'll give him that.

Dave, on the other hand, has been a trainwreck from the start.

Consider:
1/ The press release on the format change went out by accident and the trades let his PD know he was being fired.
2/ He had to launch the station before it was ready due to the leak.
3/ The PD was from Portland and never understood Atlanta, radio sales or what it takes to play in a big market.
4/ The first morning show wouldn't shut up and play the music.
5/ They bought busboards in the city while their audience was in the suburbs.
6/ Cox flipped a broken urban format to Classic Hits and continues to kick their ass in ratings and revenue.
7/ Now they can't go back to Classic Hits and they can't continue to be a AAA format and make money.

Results: Dave will never make half as much as V103.

Holding off Radio One for all these years...AND....Boy Bob at the sisters Cox....is no small feat. V103 is a MACHINE! Give Caffey his due!
I will agree, in hindsight, that WZGC should have stayed Z93 with classic rock. Had CBS radio execs realized ClearChannel was going to blow it's brains out formatically, then they probably would have stayed the course.
But the AAA(sort of)format does have a desirable niche already and with a new morning show this niche audience may broaden. I would be amazed if it turns out to be a 10 share station 12+ but I can see it doing very well with soccer dads/moms 35+....and most importantly....SD/M's w HH incomes $75K+.
Look at 790 The Zone. Almost non existant 12+ ratings.....down the list even with men 18-54. They claim they did $14M....thats 1 and 4 with a M for million.
If DAVE does $14-20 million this year Caffey will be seated at the right hand of Gawd.

That seat is taken by whoever is running The River.

Imagine finding such a huge format hole, spending almost nothing for talent and taking a weak signal move-in to $20 million a year. That is genius!

Rick should be GM of V and let someone else run Z93.

I'm guessing Rick had little to do with numbers 1,2,3 and 6. I seem to remember that someone at CBS corporate added the wrong names to an email that talked about the format change. And I would bet that corporate had a lot to do with tapping Michelle.

And while the first morning show didn't work, I can understand the rationale of hiring a host who was known in the market, some baggage notwithstanding, to put the station on the map quickly.

I think too much is made of the "same 300 songs over and over" being a new phenomenon...I will guarantee you that 94Q's playlist in 1978 or Z93's in 1981 weren't any deeper than Star's or Q's are today.

I don't think anyone expects Star, Kicks, Q or any current-hits based station to be all that "deep." But in the AC or classic rock formats, we could do much better than 250-300 songs at any one time.

Is the River doing 20 million in revenue? I wouldn't doubt it....Boy Bob Neil DOES sit at the 2nd seat, right hand of GAWD.
You almost wonder if ClearChannel has a deal with Cox to implode CC stations to the direct benefit of Cox.
I wonder if the sisters have pictures of the Mays boys "in the barnyard with da sheep!"
