Mike Sheridan is a great choice because he was THE FIRST Traffic Reporter in Providence radio. WSNE was the first I believe to do traffic updates and then of course Tony Dibiasio.
Mike's the ironman alrighty, but not the first.
And, as a former WSNE PD, I can state that WSNE sure wasn't the first station to do traffic.
The-first-of-three-times-I-moved-to-RI, 1974, WHIM -- a 1110AM simulcasting on the-frequency-now-occupied-by WHJY -- was a Country station. They had billboards on 95 and I-95 touting their morning show "Pappy & Cap'n Jack."
"Pappy" was the aforementioned Philbrook, who, if I remember this correctly, started as Chief Engineer there (?).
"Cap'n Jack" was a traffic reporter IN A HELICOPTER.
Imagine?
