I know KFRC used to use the Boss Radio jingles from its 610 AM days 99.7 FM era and 1550 AM era on and off for the last 20 years now KFRC 1550 AM is dead. Who else still uses the Boss Drake jingles. I know KRTH's Jingles are based on the 93KHJ jingle but who still uses the KFRC cuts.
I assume you mean who uses a capella Johnny Mann jingles similar to KHJ and KFRC. You still hear them from time to time, KRTH being the main example. KKSF in the Bay Area ("Oldies 103.7") has one they now use at the top of the hour that's either an actual Johnny Mann or a very close a capella imitation. But being a Cheap Channel station, they only produced one.

Last time I was in Palm Springs, KDES was using them.

BTW - I picked up the info somewhere that Bill Drake never called them 'jingles' - they were "logos."

Funny thing about KRTH is that until Drake was brought in to consult in the early 90's KRTH was using a logo from PAMS. PAMS did the jingles for KRTH starting in the 70's after Drake left RKO. The website for Johnny Mann is http://www.johnnymannsingers.com/ you'll find some examples of Mann's work there along with history about Mann and his singers.

The Boss Radio history that I've read online implies that Bill Drake more-or-less discovered Johnny Mann for radio jingles...uh...logos. But apparently, many of the early Color Radio jingles for KFWB and KEWB were done by Mann and his singers.

I've heard that too. It's been said that Chuck Blore approached Drake about doing jingles for KHJ, but wanted to do long form jingles, very highly produced, and Drake wanted shorter sings.

Its interesting that the Boss KHJ Jingles was used longer on KRTH than the original station that started boss radio 93KHJ.

Though it's understandable when you consider that KRTH has been on the air with some form of the Oldies format for most of the past 39 years. I believe they might have viered away from Oldies once or twice for short periods.

And not to split hairs - but I believe it could be said that the "Boss" format began at KYNO (Fresno), KSTN (Stockton), and KGB (San Diego) - about a year ahead of KHJ, though KHJ could ceratinly be considered the "flagship."

For a time in 1992-93 when KOLA upgraded their signal and went "live and local" they used the Drake jingles.

It was odd as for a short time both KRTH and KOLA were using the same Drake TOTH ID jingle package.

In San Francisco in the early 90s, both Oldies stations - KFRC and KYA-FM used the Drake logos- same time, same market. In fact, the latter was "93/KYA."

Who has the Aircheck of KYA 93.3 FM using the Boss radio Jingle. I thought Drake Jingles was supposed to be for RKO Top 40 stations or CBS stations doing oldies like old KFRC and Top40/Oldies KRTH 101.1

I don't know if there are any air checks of this period. There are a few on the Bay Area Radio Museum of the KSFO/KYA-FM Oldies simulcast, but that was before KSFO was sold off, and they started using the "Drake" logos.

I believe the "Drake" jingles were available to any station in a market with an Oldies format willing to pay for them. How two stations in the SF market ending up using them at the same time, I can't recall. I believe CBS already owned KFRC at the time - or it may have been Infinity before CBS bought it...not sure. CBS later bought KYA-FM, and changed the format. But my memory is that KYA-FM was under diferent ownership when they were using "Drake" logos.

Look at this WOR FM used the Boss radio Jingles in 1967

That is because WOR FM was owned by RKO General, just like KHJ... and KFRC and CKLW and WRKO and WHBQ

I believe in the early and mid-90s a lot of oldies stations used the Drake jingles.

I remember KDES used them in the early 90s.

KDES was using very similar jingles just a couple of years ago when I was in PS. If not the genuine article, they certainly 'evoked' the Drake logos. They were still at their old frequency (104.something). Not sure what they're doing now.

The jingles being used in the Bay Area now by "Oldies 103.7" are also close - not the genuine article, I don't think (not entirely a capella for one thing) but an approximate imitation.

What's interesting about that (from the point of view of historical accuracy) was that KFRC ("The Big 610") was one of the big Drake stations with the Johnny Mann jingles and other elements while kYa (jingled that way) used the same jingle sets as WCFL, KRLA and many other non-Drake stations. Can't recall who did those; though I think the original KYA also used a few PAMS jingles as well. They were really nice.

Of course, none of that actually matters because most of today's listeners wouldn't remember any of that. Even still, latter-day "oldies" stations often went with jingle packages that most closely replicated the heritage top 40 station of the market. An example of this is CBS' WODS in Boston which long used Johnny Mann jingles as heritage in-market Drake station WRKO once did. Sadly, they've since changed packages to something which is less "authentic". WLS-FM in Chicago use many of the same jingles that WLS-AM once used. And, I always loved K-Earth's jingle set.

The current WODS jingles come from 70's WABC jingle packages. Not sure if any stations in Boston used those back in the day (maybe WROR?), but in any case I think they sound great.

Have to admit that perhaps I am thinking of older jingles, but I never cared for the package that does the hard-sung W-O-D-S Boston in almost a shout. They sure did not sound like WABC's 70's PAMS nor later JAMS jingles to me. Again, perhaps they've freshened them up lately.
