Who was the first Black Woman and first Black Man to anchor in San Diego?

Wow, that's a tough one: have KGTV, KNSD and KFMB ever had an African American anchor for a weekday evening newscast?

As for San Diego radio, I believe Stan Evans on XEAK the mighty 6-90 was the first black dj in the San Diego market. He went on to do radio news in L.A.

Hmmm...I don't know about Stan Evans being Black. I remember having 690 top 40 charts with pics of the DJs on them, Stan Evans was certainly one of those pictured but I remember him as being white. You could be right, though, its obviously a long time ago. How about some of the shows that came and went on XEGM or XEMO or XEAU? It is a hard question, and I can't even think of a good source.

I did recall that KNSD (known over the years as Channel 39, Cable 7, KCST) had an African American reporter in the late 70's and into the 80's. His name was Hal Gray and he may have done some weekend anchoring.

I don't know if he was the first but the late Jim Gordon anchored the weekend news and was a field reporter on Channel 8 in 1970 and possibly earlier.

He was a retired Navy journalist and the first black journalist ever hired at KFMB:

Margaret Radford....

Margaret worked at KFMB as a reporter from 1979-1986.

She was at KGTV from 1986-1991, and KFMB 1991-94, where she was indeed an anchor, according to a 1991 article:

Channel 8 will still have one black reporter--the station has hired Margaret Radford from KGTV (Channel 10). She will be the new weekend anchor, replacing Mitch Duncan, who is moving to the 11 p.m. weekday newscast.

Margaret was a fill-in anchor at KNSD/KCST from 1994-2007.
