Who was the very last English Speaking DJ on KLOK-1170 just before the switch to Spanish in august of 1988. i think his first name was "Jim". Don't know his last name.
I heard it was during the morning show on 8/9/88. If you're thinking Jim - it may be Jim Phillips who normally hosted during that time. Some folks here claim to have the flip air check, but I haven't heard it.
I believe it was Jim Phillips and the Spanish programing was not ready at the time "The Spanish KLOK" programing was supposed to take over and their dj announced in very broken english "One more time" by Air supply.
I have the air check if anyone wants it. Ironicly some of the best music played on KLOK was during the final hours when they went "free form" and the dj's brought in their own music collection to play.
Recently KLOK went went from spanish to middle eastern programing and they even opened up their old studios on King Road in San Jose and are broadcasting out of what was once a boarded up studio after Mr. Weaver sold the station. The "new" KLOK held onto the property due the fact their transmitters where located and still are on the property.
Does anyone have KLOK airchecks from the early to mid 1970's? If so, PLEASE let me know, OK!
I would also like to hear an aircheck from the first Jim Phillips show in 1977. PLEASE let me know if you have that, OK. PEACE
It was Jim Phillips who handed the torch over to new KLOK program director Gustavo Medrano at noon on August 9, 1988, when the station became Radio Reloj.
You may be able to listen and/or backload the audio at:
Thats not the air check that I have they were trying to hand over the station earlier that morning but were having trouble and when the were going to swicth to spanish it cought them off guard (they were not ready) and they had to play Air Supply with the new spanish speaking dj it was later that they did another this time "official" switch I'll send the first switch over to you.`
If you're directing this to me, no need. We have the last few days of KLOK before the Radio Reloj switch in the vault. The recordings were by Mike Schweizer, who contributed them to us, but they're also available from Tim Požar's Late Night Software website.
Does anyone know if there are airchecks outside the one on 8/5/88 and two on 8/8/88 on the lns.com site? If anyone is aware of a longer aircheck around this time - and especially 8/9/88, I'd love to get my hands on them.
