Urban legend has it in the past decade or so a jock left Oldies 103.3's overnight shift in protest, just walked off leaving dead air.

Anyone know who it was and why they did it? (What the protest was about?)

Jason Wright.... coincidentally, there's a post mentioning him right below this one.... yes, he did walk out in the middle of his overnight shift... talk about not burning bridges!

Re: Thanks

Thanks for clarifying - I thought the name was familiar but wasn't sure if that was the fellow.

One d.j. wondered how anyone who did that could get hired again. Wonder what the protest was all about.

>As the summer heat incubates the bacteria that grows and thrives on summer ponds of stagnant water.... so does the amazing crop of steel- nerved so called talent from another single cell......nurtured under the haze over the sharp insight management claims to have in every other book but the summer.

So much fermentation.

Teach me how to bend ( over) this way for that kind of pr as a talent. I had to go the loin I mean long way to avoid using the words having a "balls" so as not to potentialy offend.

I'm grabbing onto this post not to attack the specific talent but to raise a few questions for which there are already some answers ( hence-discussion) as to what qualifies for talent and what ' mistakes' can be overlooked or tolerated.

This kid on this thred gets a second shelf life.

I've made some mistakes. Never showed up drunk , swore on air or or walked out on air.

Just another so-called very talented woman softly shoved out to pasture amid wispers about the cute single woman and management as opposed to patted on the back and allowed to revisit the industry with nothing but the accolades of the fear of the managemnt who think the male talent they got rid of yesterday will become the next Stearn of tomorrow.Oh Please. Stone me! Further ( not farther).

Write me off as just another angry woman and nothing in my treatment within this industry will have changed.

Ask a black slave why he ran and he will say because the man will beat me less if I am not caught.

I know....I'm not pulling that. Never did. Smoked and drank and typed as fast as the rest of them on manuals while cradling a phone in my shoulder and running the ampex to record in all those phoners in full service AM newsrooms.

My voice is long past token and just as good as conveying a message but the question begs the answer why a talent who pulled a no show shift in a major market and now touts himself as a talent for Siruis gets away with it?

You let him. I did. I checked out the web site and thought hey...he must be really good huh? It's not about him it;s what is represented.

The rest of us Swallow what the industry we devoted our lives to (forsaking tv) gave us and the best I have to look forward to is a bizarre stomach or brain cancer for having also done meter readings.Because I was taught to fear and/ or respect the fcc.

...and pacifiy the engineer.

Back when they, and the FCC counted.

You think the fcc matters now? What does the fcc say about a jack-off format that doesn;t satisfy regulations?

a format that allows for fewer public policy requirements?
a format that consolidates MORE jobs?

...oooh is the emperor not only naked but stripped raw or what? is that considered offensive? saying the emperor is raw. ' Cause naked is nothin now

Angry?
me? No ....mystified. or as Casey kasem once said....." ------Ponderous."

Naw...clearly I lack self- confidence. that must be the key to not surviving in this industry.

Talent is so secondary.

No we're never gonna survive unless we get alittle craz...y

...and here I am knowing I could call SeaL for a reference but why ...and now...especially......for what?
a pd's wet dream of an am show interview and photo op?
I guess that depends on the format.

Don;t even get me started on my relationship with Jodie Foster in New Haven in the early 80's.

To my grave and to hell with real radio.......

all hail the satans of sirius

Wasn't he the PD at WEIM in Fitchburg for a short while a few years ago?
