whos/wbhp huntsville now on 106.5 fm

This combo is now on a translator that use to carry WTAK, 106.5. Puts out a good signal, since I can hear it 45 miles away. That's the third AM in H'ville to go FM. 1450 and 1550 being the others.

CC actually put the WBHP programming on WQRV-HD2 and are carrying the HD-2 channel on the translator. This keeps them legal as far as the translator coverage area not exceeding that of WBHP or WHOS.

It'll be interesting to see how this changes things in the market with WBHP/1230 on 106.5, WTKI/1450 on 92.9, and WVNN/770 on 92.5. Even though 92.5 is the only full FM signal, the translators have significantly better coverage over Huntsville.

Nice, makes it easier for me to null out W293AH when trying to pick up WSKZ instead of trying to figure out which of the two classic rock stations is which.

I do find it interesting that CC flipped 106.5 just two weeks AFTER 92.9 went on the air. THe translator for TAK sounded much better than 106.1 at least in Huntsville proper. It had better stereo separation and was louder. I wonder now if this will hurt TAK's ratings a little. They also showed no consideration for TAK listeners because they just flipped it without warning thus leaving people like my brother in law clueless.

They might as well just move TAK to 100.3, I swear every time I ever flip by the river, they're playing a song TAK would.

Yea I have to wonder what effect this might have on WTAK. I know alot of Huntsville TAK listeners (expecially north Huntsville) listened to the translator instead because of clearer sound. I can understand the move by CC though with the other AMs having an FM outlet now. Lets not forget about WUMP on 103.9 too. You have the main news/talk WVNN on a full power FM (but bad FM coverage in Huntsville), and now WTKI on 92.9. CC needed to put WBHP on an FM to keep from completely becomming obselete. 106.5 has great coverage for a translator so it can only help WBHP. With both 92.9 and 106.5 having better Huntsville coverage than 92.5, I think now is a good time for Cumulus to put WVNN on 93.3 and leave all the rest of them in the dust. Not that they don't already do, but being on a better FM will be huge. They sit comfortably at #2 now, Maybe they'd have a chance at #1 on 93.3. Putting country on 93.3 was an attempt to knock WDRM off the #1 spot anyways and since that hasen't worked with direct competition, try a different route. Country has been a waist on that signal anyways.

IMO, it does seem kinda strange the 106.5 translator flipping to talk after 92.9 did. And, although I'm not the biggest fan of WTAK's way of programming, I tuned in to 106.5 way more than I did on 106.1. I tuned in to 92.9 the othr morning and I have to say they have a pretty good morning program. Keep up the good work!

Another positive of simulcasting WVNN on 93.3 would be that all of the metro area would have a clear signal to listen to Alabama football games in the fall.

it does get quite annoying flipping between 92.5, 103.9, 93.9, 92.7, 770 and 730 while in the car just to hear the game, WVNN on 93.3 would be perfect. As for 92.5 (as if it would happen the way i want) they could bring back WAZK 92.5 Rock.

As if there weren't enough AM stations on FM in the Huntsville area, WEKI Decatur is listed as being rebroadcast now on the 94.3 translator there in town. W232BX I believe. I guess that makes the WEKI/WTKI thing a four way simulcast now, 1450/1490/92.9/94.3.

W232BX has a permit to move to 94.7 with a little bit better coverage, it looks like.

On WEKI AM 1490's wikipedia page, it shows the logo with AM 1490 and FM 94.7 on it. Apparently this has been in the works for some time, since the logo has been on the page for at least a month now.
