WHOT YOUNGSTOWN THE GRANDADDY OF ALL TOP 40

WHOT in Youngstown, Ohio is the GRANDADDY OF ALL TOP 40! This station started this format back in 1955 on AM 1330! It moved to the FM when the former station known as THE WIZARD switched their call letters and format from AOR WSRD to WHOT-FM in early 1984. A legendary Top 40 station in that market for over 50 years!

The runner up here will be a guess. I will guess that it is WPRO in Providence, Rhode Island. When it was DIAL 63 on AM until they segued their legendary format over to the AM in 1974.

Alright you radio fans, it is now YOUR TURN to RESPOND!

I think a grandparent ot top 40 is about accurate.
I would call it Adult CHR now, as its playlist does not match a typical top 40 until after 6:00 PM now. Lots of recurrents and the like. But I still enjoy it!

HA!

Grandparent is right! WHOT, aka "HOT 101" hasn't been a good CHR since probably 2001-ish when Cumulus bought it from Connoseiur Communications.
The old CEO of Connoseiur is back in the radio game though and owns the Erie, PA cluster, I'd LOVE to see him get ahold of the Cumulus Ytown stations again!

Last book, WHOT was down big time with 18-34 demos and up quite a bit with 25-54.
They've given up on CHR, its mainly Hot AC and its a shame.
