WHTQ 96 Rock to flip to simulcast of WDBO-AM 580 on Friday morning

Does anyone in the immediate Orlando area know if the new WDBO translator on 102.5 (antenna in Winter Garden) is still on the air?

The reason I ask is that in eastern Hernando county and south Sumter county I was picking it up (on the car radio and inside as well) two weekends ago (and the weekend before that), but this past weekend, I was not.

It was inevitable. If you look at Cox's other talkers, almost ALL of them have gotten an FM simulcast. Tulsa, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Dayton, etc. Probably a smart move to preserve WDBO.

Hildi's out of a job again. (Along with everyone else, I should add.) Best of luck to anyone who's not getting to stay on in some other capacity afterwards.

OK, Mr. Tillery, you were right.

I guess there was more revenue upside from moving DBO than what they could generate with the narrow male demos HTQ generated. Also gives the Magic an FM flagship station.

It could also give WDBO the option of putting Orlando Magic on AM 580 while remaining News/Talk on FM 96.5, or visa-versa. I suppose it depends on their contractual agreements, and how to best serve their "core" audience.

Wow! Hate to hear about more good people losing their jobs.

It's been off the air for quite some time now. 102.5 is probibly going to become WPOZ's YHot format when it returns to the air.
As for WHTQ leaving, soon WJRR will be the only rock in town with the exception of when WTKS runs their cheap channel canned fossil rock format weekends & overnights.

Thank you for the info; that certainly explains why I hadn't heard the WDBO translator at 102.5 since late July, in the east Hernando/south Sumter county area.

Back on topic (somewhat); I just wonder if there will be a domino effect and WFLF will move up their plans to get a full power FM to suppliment their AM signal......... or if this possible domino effect will extend to the St. Petersburg/Tampa market and cause WFLA to rethink not having a full power FM for their AM signal (or at the very least a 250 watt translator).

DING! I think you'll see some other changes in the market by the weekend. Uh oh.... did I just suggest something else is about to happen? ;D

Re: Last song / call letters

Any guesses as to what the last song on WHTQ will be? Also is there a call letter change to WDBO-FM in the works?

I actually found myself listening to 96.5 more and more as of late, even though the playlist was a bit limited. It made a nice backup when WJRR had their jocks yammering on about supermarket flyers.

I can't really see the point in adding a news station that you can already get.

As the GM said in her statement, "There are listeners in Orlando who have never visited the AM dial". AM is about to enter a phase of very rapid decline as all of the major companies abandon it.

Here's my prediction.... the Monsters and the BS show move to JRR.... Hedinger, Beck and Rush to 104.1, Philips stays.... does anyone in the market carry Savage?

Nice work Parttimer. That's EXACTLY what I'm thinking. The only exception is Buckethead, who I'm not sure has a slot. Crash goes back to middays... then what do they do with Pat Lynch? Doesn't seem like they've got enough time slots for everyone. As the only remaining rock station, you gotta figure if they're gonna go all talk in the morning, no way will they do the same in the afternoons.

If this indeed happens, I'd love to see Jim Phillips get back to his old ways and lose the circus around him. By staying local and "focused" news and issues, Phillips will destroy Hannity on WDBO-AM/FM.

You can add that one can hear WDBO (FM) inside buildings now! And when there are storms outside, you don't hear crackling on the radio when it's FM.
