Why AC Stations play Christmas Music. Patriotism of course!

I feel so bad. Here I have been thinking that stations play All Christmas Music as a cynical ratings ploy. As it turns out, at least at Savannah's WYKZ, they do it because of unselfish patriotism. I apologize. Full explanation at the link below.

"Many of you have called or written to ask why we started playing Christmas music just after Halloween. We appreciate your thoughts on our current programming. The reason behind our decision follows along with the true Christmas spirit. After going through a very rough 2005, with the most tragic natural disaster of this country's history, escalating gas prices and the continuing war in Iraq, we first thought people needed a break and some music to make them happy again; additionally, we decided to ask the military's permission to provide Christmas music for the troops overseas. We needed to begin our broadcast when we did in order to allow it to be recorded for 2 ½ weeks. The initial broadcasts will be recorded, edited, processed and sent to the troops to give them a taste of home. As you can imagine, this process requires the processing of plenty of red tape as well as a large amount of time to pull off properly. We are simply inviting those who are not ready for Christmas music yet to come back when they are in the mood. Thank you for your time and I hope if you "stray" that you'll come back when you feel the time is right.
AND...if you have a family member serving overseas, call and record your holiday greeting and we'll include as many as possible in our music for the troops! Call weekdays from 6-10am 1 866 762 0987 or 947 0987.

Take care and here's to a great Holiday Season,

Your friends at 98.7 The River...
