Why cant Knoxville radio be more like Louisville and Indianapolis

Both markets have not one, but 2 chrs that lean on the younger end,, Louisville has a Gen X 90s station... Indianapolis has 2 wonderful classic hits stations that could work on 100.3.. Classic Hits wjjk 104.5 which leans rock (used to be Jack but failed miserably), and My 107.9 which leans on the dancy stuff, with even some oldies and currents mixed in, but plays the hair bands as well, both stations combined are I-100 and all the woki formats all over again...

And of course everyone on the Indianapolis and Louisville board complains that those markets are the worst radio markets in the country. Knoxville does have both a "regular" CHR and hip-hop station; I don't know that there's room for a third, or else you'd have a situation like Dayton had before Z93 was blown up. From my limited time in the market, B97.5 does have A/C cornered; 106.1 reaches limited parts of the market.

I highly doubt another CHR would makes waves here. Between Star, Hot, Electric, and River, everything is covered. In fact some songs are played on all four stations. I'd rather have a format we don't have here like an Urban or something similiar to one of the classic hits stations you mentioned.

I was Louisville last weekend and had the misfourtune of hearing the Gen-X station and I was not impressed with it in the least bit. I listened for about 30 to 45 minutes and heard exactly ONE SONG that I liked. The rest of the songs that were played were wimpy 90's Pop fluff Hits, such as Savage Garden, Jewel and the Cranberries, that are still played on most A/C stations today.

Plus, why are you so obsessed with the I-100 era of WOKI? WOKI had a lot of formats before and after I-100 that I prefer over the I-100 format?

Personally, my favorite WOKI era was prior to the I 100/ Brother Clay era. I liked them best in the mid 80's when they first adopted the "Hits 100" name and had the JAM jingles from Z100 New York. This was the era when Jeff Jarnigan programmed them and they had Shotgun Stevens in the evenings. This seemed to be the only time that they seemed to pump some real money and effort into the sound and production of the station. I never liked Brother Clay's hairband/rock leaning sound when he was programming them as "I 100" in the late 80s/early 90s. I preferred crosstown WTNZ "Power 95" at that time over 'OKI.
