why did clear channel pick gen x for 100.5 it has a few years of life?

I do like some of the songs still to much from louie is played but nelson and will smith good hearing the songs. But i read where they were thinking of going hot ac but went with this instead seems to me hot ac could have done better but in the short run gen x radio will. My guess is for a hot ac to have done really well it would have had to have personalities and cc was not gonna put the money into that besides we already have the max and quicksie.

Thank god it is not cox doing this they had that point 80s statin and did a really bad job at programming. They refused to play anything outside top 10 it seems that this station has a bit of variety to it i mean 100.5 is playing just like heaven and the point never played that and it was 80s!!!

Keep in mind that oldies had a near 20 year run. That's probably what Clear Channel's thinking. Generation X is now entirely within the 25-54 demo and has been for a few years. It will also be in the 25-54 demo for quite-a-few years as the oldest members of generation X are around 45 right now.

Of course, time will tell if it actually works. It will be interesting to see if a station like WLGX burns out like jammin' oldies or if it has staying power. If it has staying power, it will be a gold mine for more than a decade.

You guys are assuming that Clear Channel is going to do the format right. The FIRST mistake was firing all the on air people. You would think they would get a clue that when you fire the very reason people are listening for, it's already off with a bad start. I give it four years before they flip it again.

It won't take 4 years. When I listen to my iPod; I don't always listen to the same format or songs over and over again. So why would this station last that long. It take personality to keep me listening; most radio these days is no more interesting than my iPod. And my iPod has no commercials.

Rare day that I have any compliments for CC and while I have not listened to the new 100.5, they get my credit for doing something different. If they had chosen a safer format, we (I included) would be thinking, if not saying out loud, "just what we need...another (insert Country, Classic Hits, Classic Rock, Hot AC, Soft AC, etc) station...ugh". I've never professed to know what makes these people tick, but I remain glad that I don't make these decisions.
