--->Since the Buenos Aires station had, maybe, the highest news talk share in the Hemisphere, and cumed around 3 million, I think it is very impressive.
Wow, if I had my children executed by death squads, was forced to listen to Eva Peron sing for 20 years, and was burning my furniture to stay warm, I'd listen to your radio station, too.
(In fact, that's probably the only reason I'd listen to your station.)
El pluperfecto, you are quite literally comparing apples to naranjas.
---->To clarify, I was doing 21 to 23 semester credits at ASU. Since it was where I could study, it was my only choice. And since I did not want a diploma as much as a bacground in the true areas of radio, like psychology, sociology, statistics, math, electronics, buisness, accounting, law, I took a lot of courses that did not qualify me for a degree. At the same time, I was programming KWKW via weekly visits, and helping with the CHRs and KONE. It was a nice way to get through school.
Oh, be still my beating heart. Would you please post your transcipt and book list so as to give us a glimpse at the breadth and scope of your training?
And it sounds like you didn't bother to get a degree. Correct me if I'm wrong (bwah hah hah - like that's a worry).
And ASU grad school? What do you need to get in back then? A checkbook and a pulse. I went to the U of A and ASU's grad schools were a national joke back then. In the words of Bart Simpson, "we're not exactly talking San Diego State here."
---->One does not have to be an "NPR" expert to know that a one share is nothing special when the NPR station in San Francisco is #2 in the market. They do a vastly better job there than they do in LA, and it shows in actually having real and significant numbers, not the below-25th shoing of KCRW and the ground clutter range of KPCC.
I agree completely.
----->Any loss at KNX over th elast decade has been due to AM attrition, not the two FMs you mention.
Let's see, AM shrinks, FM grows. AM news shrinks, FM news grows. But the two are not correlated. Caca, puro caca.
------>In fact, the growth of KPCC and KCRW have very little correlation with whatever is happening to KNX. AM has been losing almost all the 35-44s and there is severe 45-54 erosion. Since the two formats (KNX vs. the FM more depth, talky format) are different, they are also used differently. Just look at the in car for KNX, while the FMs do not et anything like that... the rpgramming is too long form.
Thta is my point precisely, it is so obvious even you get it. But the loss on AM equals growth on FM, even at two pisspoor stations like KCRWPCC.
----->Many of us in big markets do extensive community efforts. Come over and look at the walls of the PD of Recuerdo in LA,
Excellent idea. It would be very interesting to see how many of those certificates are in english. Last I checked, english-language stations have to demonstrate meeting a public interest commitment to the entire community (including other languages). When is the last time recuerdo did something for minorities (i.e. what you so insultingly and cavalierly disparage as gringos)?
I can't recuerdo either. But of course, the signal is so poor, I can't pick it up in my house, car, walkman or computer.
