WHY DONT FRESH 100 - FRESH 100.3 FM WNIC DETROIT GO MAINSTREAM TOP 40 - CHR?

Why don't Fresh 100 go mainstream contemporary hits radio since Channel 955 has become a Rhythmic CHR radio station?

If Fresh 100.3 went CHR it would better fit their name, because fresh means new.

Really...your making a post about a CC station flipping to a CHR format when they already have Channel 955...Numan, your posts are always amusing. On this board and the other Detroit message board site.

MW kicked my off and banned me from the other board for no good reason. He said I was posting moronic posts.

As if Clear Channel need yet ANOTHER Pop/CHR station to overlap the music Channel 955 plays on a regular basis...

Apparently you must not have witnessed what happened last time when they tried that idea

What happened? Was it 106.7 THE BEAT did not do good with ratings?

Pretty much. They're now classic rock

I see.

It had nothing to do with ratings. The problem was The Beat was basicaly sharing listeners with 955. There were a few instances where they even beat Channel which they couldn't let happen. 955 is CC's biggest money maker in the market and The Beat was messing with that.

The 'Fresh' experiment has been a failure.

Since WNIC has been made into such a basket case, it certainly wouldn't hurt them to try something else. I have to believe that the execution would be flawed considering who owns the station.

I never understood why WNIC ditched mainstream AC. Maybe they should go back to AC, or have they done too much damage?

WMGC is nearly classic hits now they play so much 70s/80s. They don't even play AC currents or much music after 2000.

I think it's already too late for WNIC. Besides, I think they went from AC to Hot AC because they wanted to go in a new direction.

Not to mention Detroit already has AMP. Does a market really need 3 CHR stations? Having 2 under the same ownership doesn't make any sense. WNIC dipped way down after the holidays. As far a the AC format goes its fading in some parts of the midwest. Joplin MO just lost theirs to a Classic Hits station.

Kansas City lost its AC last year, as well. WLIT/Chicago is nearly Hot AC. I think the format is struggling to find a niche with the extreme popularity of classsic hits with listeners in their 40s and 50s, and even CHR, in females 25-54.

At least they are living up to their name "soft rock", which in this day and age IS classic hits, apparently.

In a way, it is. There hasn't been much "soft" music, much less any with staying power, in the past 15 years. There's been the occasional AC hit that's been soft, but nothing like in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. The best "soft" songs were in the 70s and 80s, IMO.

WNIC is still a conservative Hot AC, from the looks of it.

I guess it's safe to say that the AdCon format isn't as popular as it used to be back in the '90s, and even in the early 2000s. I can tell because there really isn't a Modern AC station here in Detroit (unless one would count the artist formerly known as Magic 105-1), and pretty much those that were AC flipped to either Hot AC (Fresh 100) or Adult Top 40 with no rap (WDVD).

Well prepare yourselves because there is one heck of a lot of "soft hits" coming out right now! Especially in comparison to the music that used to dominate the charts in the 00's, much of today's music is soft. Many of these songs may cross over into various types of AC's. Only problem is most of today's soft music all pretty much sounds alike, but then again, so did disco and no one really complained about that on AC.
