In my question, I did not indicate that a music station could not be a person's P1. I was addressing what I see as a pattern in programming for male and female listenership. I myself consider several music stations as "foreground". Stations that have music that makes you sing along to...country and perhaps even classic rock are music formats that have songs that tend to be foreground. Country definitely has a strong female listenership, but it seems that stations that are known widely as passive, background listening skew female (I hear many discuss this when it comes to the PPM as rationale how some top rated stations realized their larger ratings, that their signals are being picked up by the PPM in businesses in a passive, BACKGROUND way). As for talk stations, outside of NPR, what commercial talk radio skew female?
