Why has the cc lt rock station flipped to xmas but not la or nyc yet?

I am in chicago visiting family and noticed that the cc lt rock station 93.9 has already started santa radio. Why hasn't cc kost in la or lt 106.7 flipped yet? I like christmas music even if the playlist are tight. Just wondering if anyone can share info on it?

And i really miss q101. randy michaels shoudl be ashamed of himself for killing off a heritage station in favor of a format that will fail make no mistakes about it. He should be ashamed of himself!!! Two count them two fm all news stations no way!!!I am speaking of 105.9

While most CC stations that go Christmas will play almost identical overly repetitious playlists, they all start at different times depending on the market and their own agendas. KOST for example usually goes all Santa around the time of their annual Disney party which started out as the station's birthday party and has now morphed into a holiday kick-off party. It also doubles as the CC Burbank staff Christmas party.
NYC will certainly go soon as well, but again when they deem the right time. Ratings have a great deal to do with when a station switches. If I recall 93.9 could use the boost, so why not go early. With KOST's latest PPM drops I'm sure they're chomping at the bit.

I remember reading in R&R a few years ago that WLTW/NYC actually polled their listeners to select a date to go all-Christmas; I believe this was in 2006 or 2007.

WLTW flipped to all-Christmas on Dec. 14th that year.

KOST/Los Angeles went all-Christmas on Tuesday 11/15. They were probably waiting for their annual Christmas party at Disneyland (which was held on Thursday 11/17) but were forced to go early after CBS went all-Christmas on KTWV (94.7 The Wave) on Sunday 11/13.

Some stations also choose to wait because they want to avoid all-Christmas fatigue. There are some of us out there who don't like hearing five or six straight weeks of all-Christmas music.

KOST should have stuck to their original plan. I expect this competition talk to be grist for the mill for a radio insider place like this one, but they should think about what they are projecting to the common average listener. To wit, even people who don't pay attention to the "radio wars" but just want something to listen to in the car or at work wouldn't pay much attention to the timing vis a vis the competion if they just waited a few days and launched with their party as they have done in the past. But in this case even a casual listener would notice "ahh, the Wave went Christmas early and now KOST is following suit." Now KOST comes off looking like a follower and not a leader. Had they waited until the party, it would have looked like they were just doing their own thing and no reference to the competition would be made. The way the dominant station in the format should act. End result: Jhani 1, KOST 0.

Like I said earlier, KOST usually goes the day before, the day of, or the day after their party, so they "possibly" went a day or two earlier. But make no mistake, they went early "because" the WAVE wnet Christmas on Sunday. Oh and to my surprise the WAVE sounds like it's doing a better job of it. I listened to both yesterday. I tuned in during the drive home and to my ears the WAVE deejay blew the KOST jock away. KOST really hurt themselves getting rid of their afternoon jock. But more than that, KOST sounded a little harsh and outdated. KTWV isn't as processed a signal and it's really nice to hear clean sounding music that isn't over compressed like KOST is now. But back on point, I don't think it really matters that much that KTWV beat KOST to the X-mas punch, it just matters who finishes first..

I thought that maybe CC believed LA and NYC listeners were too slick for this hokey and cheesy programming stunt

They've been falling for it since 2001 in LA. It's a staple and it's not going away any time soon...
