Why no News/Talk radio shows on audio channels of cable & satellite networks?

Why don't we see more (any?) news/talk radio programming on the audio/music channels of the cable networks, Dish Network and Direct TV? I'm sure news/talk radio content providers would like their material to air on the audio/music channels of the cable networks and satellite dish companies.I'd think the popular news/talk radio shows (e.g. Rush, Franken, etc.) would be of interest to cable and satellite TV viewers (especially in markets that don't carry the talk show hosts on terrestrial radio). People could listen while they go about their household work.What's stopping this from occurring? Any chance of this happening more in the future?

I suspect the issue is money. Bottom line: Would you be willing to pay extra for full satellite radio service via satellite TV?
 
I think actually it would be CHEAPER to stream radio stations over sattelite TV than stuff like XM,Music choice,Sirius (Im glad they do though)

Money? Are there any other reasons?Do cable and satellite companies think that news/talk doesn't get the listener ratings that music stations do?Or is it the (sometimes-)controversial nature of some news/talk?

No, not ratings and not controversy.Just money. Satellite radio pays syndicators for the shows they carry. If the syndicators make talk shows available to satellite TV the syndicators charge XM or Sirius more - and XM or Sirius charge DirecTV and Dish more. This is subscription radio - not advertiser-supported radio. The music channels on satellite TV are a good way to promote satellite radio but even with those, they black out special programs (exclusive content) to DirecTV and Dish. They don't give everything away.That's why I ask, would you pay more for the full XM or Sirius line-up? Would people who don't already have DirecTV and Dish be more likely to sign up (and pay extra for satellite radio)?They sell this stuff and you are asking them to give it away (as part of your satellite TV service - at no extra charge). The good thing about pay radio is you get to hear music formats advertisers won't buy.

It's always about money!The radio stations airing these shows would have a fit. They're paying cash plus spot inventory for Limbaugh, spot inventory only for most of the rest of the talk shows. The local stations aren't going to be at all happy if these same shows are also available through Dish or Direct TV. Most of these syndicated shows have some type of market exclusive clause, giving protection for a certain number of miles before there can be another station running the same show. I don't know if that would also apply to the show airing on DBS satellite or not.

Mark Riley and Rachel Maddow are also available via XM.

Sean Hannity is heard on both XM and Sirius. The channel he's on is produced and distributed by ABC Radio. Dave Ramsey is also heard on both, albeit at different times.DirecTV currently carries XM's High Voltage talk channel which houses "Opie and Anthony" and "Ron and Fez," but keep in mind they originally flushed them and the baseball talk channel MLB Home Plate in mid April so that they could go 100% music, and O&A had to unleash their "pests" on DirecTV to get the channel back. I think it's simply the satellite providers wanting music as top priority.

Rome is a sports talk host.Reilly and Maddow are not major hosts, nor do they deserve to be. As I pointed out in an earlier thread, they are a drag on AAR. Progressive talk stations with good numbers generally don't carry them in morning drive.
