Why No Sports On Atlanta's Morning News?

Several weeks ago, WSB dropped the twice-per-hour sports reports from its Atlanta's Morning News. When there's a sports story big enough to make the news, the station goes to Tony Schiavone, who they still identify as their sports director.

The sports reports were brief, probably 2-3 minutes. But I liked being able to hear the Braves score and other highlights if I missed them the night before.

I'm wondering why this decision was made. Maybe they feel sports fans are going to listen to the sports stations. But I'm a sports fan who would rather hear news in the morning for the most part.

They'll probably return if they can find a way to profit from them (i.e. "sports update powered by [insert sponsor name here]")...

I heard the sports this morning on Atlanta's Morning News. Maybe I'm just working too hard. In any case, in the words of Emily Litella, "Never mind."

Maybe they feel there is no benefit plugging another station's programming. It'll be interesting to see how much they report on UGA this fall.

They don't have sports on WSB's morning TV broadcast either. That's one reason I switched to Fox5 in the mornings.

Does WSB-TV even have a scroll or a sports ticker? Even FOX News has a sports ticker on its screen during "FOX & Friends."

I noticed this also. I missed hearing the late Braves scores when may alarm clock went off. For a while there was no mention of Braves, or even Hawks when they were in playoff games. Now it seems like Scott Slade will occasionally mention the Braves score just before the top of the hour, but not consistently - maybe only if they have a few extra seconds.

I think this is short sighted. Just including the scores does not promote another station.

Would be interesting if they did - his death happened late Friday morning in Tampa, and wrestling, as we all know, is a fake sport - I'm sorry, a "scripted" sport; there's a difference. At least the Chris Benoit mass suicide had a local angle (and I'm not talking about Kurt ::) ).

Well, as of last week, they hadn't dropped the sports but the actual airtime has changed in the last month or two. It used to be around :14/:44 and is now closer to the :30/:60 mark, maybe :27/:57 or something like that. It's all the way at the end of the half hour.

Didn't listen this morning so I don't know if they dropped it entirely starting this week.

Frankly, I don't care. If I wanted sports radio, I would listen to the two dedicated sports radio stations. And I don't.

If I was REALLY ravenous about sports, I'd listen to those two stations and probably XM too. And I don't. But anyone who does need a sports IV can pretty much get it.
