Why Wont Citadel Rebroadcast their AM Stations to 92.3HD2 or 105.1HD2????

This seems a good idea to Rebroadcast their AMs to 92.3HD2 or 105.1HD2 and have multiple IBOC channels and not wasting all that transmitting power for only the main IBOC channel.

no i have on too but the only problem is wwli shut there hd off during the floods, but wpro does have 99.7 even though its a week translator it does the job in there service area.

If Citadel dont turn on WWLI and WWKX IBOC transmitter im going to Wampanoag Trail East Providence and gonna use my hd radios has a weapon and thorough all at them. :)

I was going to buy an HD radio once until I realized that it wold be insane to pay $150 to only get three or four more stations. You can already get any format imaginable over the net. Buy a $6 audio cable from Radio Shack and run it from your computer to your Stereo. That will be 100 times more fun for you than HD Radio will ever be. Just my opinion of course.

Cool. I just hooked up my laptop to a 37 inch HDTV. Now I can watch online video streamed to my TV instead watching it on a little screen. That's how I watched Holland's video from MSNBC. Now everything on youtube is like watching a TV show to me. The TV speakers are better than the laptop speakers, so last night I listened to a TALK radio station in London through my TV as well. Live video chats should be awsome too now that I can see whoever I'm chatting to right on my television screen. I Love technology! ;D

I know alot of people who cancel their cable service and watch their favorite shows on hulu YouTube Et cetera. It seems internet is killing the broadcasters. ;D

I bought one for $35. You don't have to spend $150.

But I don't have internet access when I jog...or when I am out fixing my car...or when I am out on my back porch.

Nor do I want to bother "running a cable" to my basement, on my porch, or in my garage...or on my morning run. ! ;-)

Yeah I have to come clean. I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. I haven't had cable in more than a year. I wasn't watching it. My Girlfriend wasn't watching. My cat wasn't watching it. It was just a steady stream of garbage coming into my home that nobody watched. Then I went and found the best amplified indoor antenna that they make. I bought two of them and now pull in 30 HD Channels from both Providence and Boston. After much research I also found a few people out there who stream all kinds of channels over the internet. Hulu and Youtube are only the beginning. Look a little deeper and you'll find every cable station and every Network available too. I now get far more channels on my TV than I ever did with Cable.

You can get internet access and listen to internet radio in your car if you have one of those smart phone like HTC Blackberry Palm Pre iPhone Etc. Or another solution is the Sprint or Verizon 3G hot spot it sends and receives 3G wireless data signal from a cell phone tower and turns it into a Wi-Fi hot spot so your Laptop iPod Touch WIFI radio Etc can connect to it and get internet access, but i dont know how much it cost. Another way to get internet access is to get a great directional WIFI antenna and steal your neighbors not secured WIFI connection. But this steal your neighbors WIFI solution wont work in your car while driving around because you will lose that connection in some point because WIFI signals aren't that strong to penetrate objects and the signal wont reach no more than 50FT unless if your neighbors has 4 super 10gain directional WIFI antenna pointing all directions North East West South in a tall place that would give you 10 Miles of WIFI coverage. ;D

I would like to eventually get a 3G wireless card for my laptop, but my wireless card is internal. So that could be a problem. It picks up good wi-fi though. Unfortunately that is useless in the car (and we all know how much fun it is to surf the web while driving.) Like you said though.... Wireless signals don't travel far. 3G is the only way to go. I think they have 4G now too. All my neighbors have secured their wireless connections. That's because they know I'm their neighbor. I think they got scared. Hahaha. Oh well. Maybe one day I will get one of these Super Wi-fi antennas to play with. I would like it just to see what I can pull in.

In an attempt to get this thread back to the original question, one reason is the cost. Aside from the Importer they need to buy for each main station, (probably close to $10,000,) there is a minimum rights fee to Ibiquity of at least $1000 per year for each additional HD channel you add to the main channel. Before they reorganized financing, their stock was selling for about 5 cents a share. For the few HD radios around, the capital investment did not make sense when you are trying to save paperclips to keep the company alive.

This all assumes that the main stations are HD to begin with. If they are not, upgrading to HD could easily run $250,000 per station or more depending on what they need regarding new STL's, new transmitters, new antennas, etc.

I agree. I think it will be between Satellite radio and internet radio in the car. Hopefully cars will be equipped with both. Many have said that internet radio will kill of satellite radio. It could be true. Those satellites are damn expensive to keep in service.

I bet in the future that internet radio will kill satellite radio. #1 reason you can get 10,000 internet radio stations. #2 reason XM and SIRIUS sound quality sucks very bad.

Dead??....Probably not....But I certainly don't see HD ever becoming much more than what it is right now....a glorified digital version of the old SCA sub-carrier service.

Basically....HD is about 20 years too late coming onto the scene.
