WHYM format change as of April 2nd: Fox Sports Radio -- so says NERW

Mark Fybush's Northeast Radio Watch, http://www.fybush.com/nerw.html, reports that WHYM will change calls and formats as of April 2nd.

The WYHM calls disappear, to be replaced by legacy WSAN.

Programming will be Fox Sports Radio including the Phillies.

Personally it's a disappointment, because I don't think the Valley needs another sports-formatted station. At least WYHM provided diversity, especially with WBYN-FM kaput. WYNS (now WBYN-AM) just doesn't reach the Valley all that well.

what's the point? we already have the MUCH better ESPN Radio on 1230 and 1320. and 1470 is calling themselves a sports station and the only team they have that is worth mentioning is the Phillies?! WCTO has the Eagles, correct? and 1230/1320 ESPN Radio has everything else! i think they realized they made a horrible mistake ratings-wise and sales-wise with the Religious format and were scrambling....."we already have the rights to Fox Sports on WAEB, so let's just throw it on the 1470 frequency and call it a day."

From what i've heard the signal from espn radio isn't the best. Although i could be wrong because thats just what i hear.

I suppose it depends on geography. 1320 kHz is fine out in South Whitehall by day, though nighttime is a struggle. The nighttime signal has a significant east & west directional null...meaning it's a better signal to the north & south.

1230 is OK by day, unusable by night.

I went ahead & spent the $15 for MLB Gameday Audio for the season anyway...that way I get any MLB game I want without worrying about problematic AM signals and those teams that left 'clear channel' AM (such as the Orioles [ex-WBAL] and Cardinals [ex-KMOX].

My guess is that the Phillies broadcasts were worth more to them -- and were an easier sell -- than the CCM format turned out to be.

Uh...Scott's brother?

Sorry, Scott...the memory is the second thing to go when one crosses 50...and I forget what the first thing to go was...
