WIBC Flip Rumor TRUE - WXLW to lose ESPN - Time for Board Apologies!

So the first song on Radio Now in 2000 was Fatboy Slim "Praise you" (If i Recall i know it was fat boy slim) and the last will go to Avril Lavigne "When You're Gone". Be Interesting to see what Rakestraw and Woccamiller say today on their show at 3pm about the upcoming lose of ESPN. Plus what about WYXB this year they wont be going all Xmas at Turkey Day due to NOU doing the All Christmas

Marco and Shannon are scheduled to emcee the biggest charitable event in Indy (Guys and Dolls Auction to benefit CFF) in less then two weeks. Mikey is involved in the event also...not sure in what way. Anyone think they will actually follow through and do it for the kids??

WZPL has a big decision to make: Take the lead or leave that hole for another company to fill. I see ZPL going more mainstream CHR but with a big time adult lean.

That's pretty much what I remember ZPL as being before the launch of Radio Now. I could see them returning to that approach, too.

By the way, although I didn't have a dog in the previous fight, I have to admit that I, too, would be eating crow right about now if I had said anything.

The real questions are - ... And WNDE was competing against a small cuming WXLW. Now they will compete against a strong signal (and strong lineup) in WIBC-AM.

Sporting News Radio would likely look to jump over and accomodate WXLW, since XNT only runs it weekends. But that would have THREE sports talk stations in town. NO WAY that will be supported.

XLW has the Indianapolis Indians, I'm sure they're raping them with price, since NO ONE else would take that low-level baseball for any price. It's one thing for two low-power AMs to compete in this small market as sports, but to go against 1070 would be fruitless.

I would expect/HOPE Emmis will put some thought and effort into building a First Class sports station, and not just take the network feed and call it a day. Here's hoping for some quality afternoon SPORTS drive. Hopefully NOT just Wilson and Stazniak in the afternoon staying put on the ESPN1070 station.

Hopefully these guys don't make the move to WIBC-FM. Also, expect a new morning show by January 7 on WIBC-FM.

WRONG,

Smulyan put on WNTS (Your News Talk Station) with Letterman afternoons.

As far as I know this was one of the first attempts at news or sports as a format. Sounded good but didn't fly then.

NOT WRONG!

Emmis put 1050 WFAN on the air in 1987. It later moved to the WNBC frequency at 660 AM.

Yeah...and Letterman was on WNTS **loooooonnnngggg* before 1987.

Corrections:

Sporting news is on WTF...

And if anyone on this board is thinking of picking up Indians baseball, they should be drug to victory field and throw out the first pitch at every game.

The Indians baseball broadcast is HORRIBLE and it completely interupts all programming. I hated it on WMYS, WXNT, and WXLW.

MERRY CHRISTMAS HO HO HO! SANTA CLAUS JOKING TO 12 - 25 YR OLDS. LMAO!

Oh come now. Howard Kellman will be the first to tell you, as he does in EVERY interview of him I've ever read, that he has passed up MANY offers from the big leagues, because he likes Indy so darn much!

That ballclub is managed upstairs like most radio stations in this town - by people who's only credential to own one is the size of the bank account. But intelligence? Please.

The only advantage to having Indians baseball on (wow, never thought I'd use the advantage in talking about the Indians) is that you can name your price. NO one else will take them because of the unprofessional broadcast they put out (not to mention Howard). So xlw can charge what they want, and the Indians have to pay it.

$400 per game/night goes a long way for a station charging $5 per commercial for drive time (and still not getting much action with that!)

My prediction is by Jan. 7 you will hear Britney, Christina, Timberlake, etc on the New Kool 101.9FM - "From your grandfathers music, NOU to your daughter's music!"

Maybe Russ quietly offered NOT to switch WKLU to a hot CHR format if Uncle Jeff gave him a big bag of money? Instead of telling Russ to take a hike again, Jeff blinked and changed the format of Radio Now! There ya go.

Oasis may be able to play chicken with the fort wayne people, but he's not even on Emmis' radar. They could buy/sell/trade his rinky-dink operation many times over. I'm sure Oasis knows his position on the pecking order. Even HE would not be so foolish as to try to play games with Emmis.

Didn't Happen. Won't Happen.

That would be the same as saying Oasis threatened Q95 with switching to THEIR format! He's completely copied their playlist practically song for song, and Q hasn't lost a step, a listener, or the first dollar because of it.

If anything, Emmis has opened the door and ALLOWED Oasis the possibility of switching from the agonizing death WKLU is facing, to the DANCE, DANCE, DANCE format that Uncle Russ so loves on his Fort Wayne candle.

The best thing about 1070 going all sports is the best sports radio personality in Indy can finally have his afternoon sports show back and I'm talking about the radio voice of the Indiana Pacers - Mark Boyle.

I'll take Boyle over anyone else who currently has or had a sports talk show in the Indy market any day of the week.

Don't be shocked if the Indians go to 1070 as well. I'd listen to Kellman and McCauley call Indians game all summer long than having to listen to the evening non play-by-play lineup of ESPN National.

where is midwestclubber when we need him....

"We need a dance station in town"

ESPN brought WXLW a .6 in ratings. Maybe WIBC wil get 4 times that for a 2.4. ESPN
leaving may be the best thing for WXLW. As an oldies station, they might beat WIBC.
WNOU was very popular in mid-sized Indiana towns that could not receive WHHH.
Where will these listeners go? Away from FM radio is my bet!
