WIBC Flip Rumor TRUE - WXLW to lose ESPN - Time for Board Apologies!

All Access has verified the simulcasting of WIBC on 93.1 --

What say you NOW all you naysayers???

It's OFFICIALLY 12:03pm - CHRISTMAS MUSIC now playing WNOU.

It says ESPN will go to IBC on January 7 - where does that leave WXLW? Now all they have is Rake and Wok - hope they can extend that show to 24-hours per day (find more golf courses to broadcast from).

FUNNY FUNNY HAR HAR.

NOW APOLOGIZE for your pompus attitude regarding these rumors! All you naysayers chastising people for bringing forth the TRUTH!

Re: WIBC Flip Rumor TRUE - Time for Board Apologies!

I apologize for the Red Bull crack....

Otherwise, it's 90 degrees and Emmis is playing Christmas music. Morons.

Re: WIBC Flip Rumor TRUE - Time for Board Apologies!

Partial apology...the fact of the change is correct. But there's a big difference between 2 weeks & 3 months. The change occurs in Jan 2008. 1070 becomes an ESPN sports format.

Why wouldnt they put the talker on AM and the sports on FM?? Sports talk has more marketability. Double Morons.

Completely the opposite. Sports Radio in this market has NO marketability. Emmis will have to hire quality talent and CREATE a sellable product. As it is now, ratings are never more than a 1 (usually .8 or less).

Compared to Limbaugh? Please.

Ok, so why take WIBC with a range over most of the state and put it on an FM that reaches just Indy?

Either they know Sports has more marketability, or they want to kill the talker on FM....

Sexy Santa in a Thong !

Rumor: KLU to begin playing Britney

My prediction is by Jan. 7 you will hear Britney, Christina, Timberlake, etc on the New Kool 101.9FM - "From your grandfathers music, NOU to your daughter's music!"

How will this affect the Chuck Dann/top of the hour ID?

Maybe Bill Shirk will buy back WXLW and go oldies. If he still has all of the Gary Gears liners it will be deja vu all over again, "WXLW WANTS TO GIVE YOU TWENTY-THOUSAND-DOLLARS!!!"

*AAARRRRGH!!!! Thank you for THAT picture! :)

What is usually the domino effect when something like this happens? What becomes of 950 and their staff? I am assuming they won't be moving over to 1070? So are there new local guys coming in or is it all national? And Ho do you have any inside info that WKLU is flipping or just guessing? Doesn't their owner own a station in Fort Wayne that is much like WNOU was? I just hope someone brings back oldies.

93.1 reaches beyond Indy. It's replicating a 50,000 watt pattern they had before the transmitter and tower switch from downtown to the east side. There's more signal competion on adjacent channels than the past.
In October WIBC doesn't reach the entire metro until they go to Daytime power at 8AM. That will go to 8:30 the first week in November until the switch back from DST. The program switch makes more sense for the metro, which is where they will establish their rates, and not the statewide reach.

The real questions are - how, if at all, does WZPL react? Do they delve into the mainstream CHR world a little more? Also, what will WWFT flip to next year? WIBC-FM already brings to the table an established brand with a strong lineup. This absolutely kills WWFT. Not to mention whatever small share WXNT has. And WNDE was competing against a small cuming WXLW. Now they will compete against a strong signal (and strong lineup) in WIBC-AM. Their 1.2 share 12+ will become far more difficult to come by. This is only the beginning, as the wheel will continue to turn.

OK, I apologize. Guess I'll have to develop a taste for Fudge Mocha!

I speculated that ESPN might find a new home. You don't need to read minds to think WXLW's signal would be ripe for a switch.

My hope: WXLW has balls.

Call letters on 93.1 would be WIBC so "Radio Indiana...WIBC Indianapolis" ID would still be usable since they will be a standalone unless they keep the WIBC calls for the sports station (unlikely).

Bring back Windy 1260 to go against Space Station Shirk in an oldies war! (Wishful thinking).

Actually 1070's plate is full with Colts, Pacers, IU BB and Indycar. Purdue, Butler, the Indians and NASCAR still need to be somewhere on the air in Indy.

Or perhaps WXLW FOR SALE FOR TWENTY-THOUSAND-DOLLARS!

I just hope they figure out that WIBC and WLHK are both useless on an HD radio during Colts games. They turn the delay off but leave the HD on...the radio switching between the two modes 8 seconds apart. Thankfully I was within reach of QMIX 107.3 Columbus where I could listen in peace...It's like they know to turn the delay off, but haven't found the HD on/off switch. Oh how I don't miss big city radio...

Ok, ok, I'll eat my crow... but please make it extra crispy.

WZPL has a big decision to make: Take the lead or leave that hole for another company to fill. I see ZPL going more mainstream CHR but with a big time adult lean.
