Will Boston Radio/TV News "Duck" The Cover Story In Sunday's Boston Globe?

The Sunday Boston Globe published an expose that mice and unhealthy food preparation conditions are running rampant in some of Boston's most expensive restaurants...Figs, Sonsie,The Federalist, McCormick and Schmidts(sp?) to name just a few. And a few were closed until the health violations were corrected.

Wonder if radio and TV news directors will spike this major Boston Globe story because so many of those stations have restaurant trades at many of those named restaurants?

I know this is more TV related rather than radio related, but channel 5 did run a piece on the McCormick & Schmitt's rats - after "Inside Edition" (of which WCVB is the local affiliate) ran said national story.

Good question though, especially given the relationships between radio execs and high-end restaurants.

I remember when there was a news story about the Barking Crab in Boston--fecal matter found in
water nearby (not sure if it was in their actual food) and it soon was redubbed The Barking Crap on WRKO, etc. Despite getting some
ribbing about it, the restaurant wound up rebounding and even started getting them to give away gift
certificates!

Waiter, there's a fly in my soup. (Shh! Everybody will want one!)

No extra charge for any rodents found with your meal. Any word if Remy, the rat from "Ratatouille"
was seen in their kitchen?

"FREE Coffee--Slight Extra Charge For Use Of Company Stomach Pump"--sign at Building 19, early 80s
(I worked in Lynn & Burlington stores, 1981-85, and no, I didn't think up that sign)

You forgot that other old chestnut. "Waiter, what is this fly doing in my soup?" "The backstroke," replied the waiter. :)

What about the one that goes something like:

Customer: Waiter, your thumb is in my soup

Waiter: I'm keeping it warm, sir

Customer (very angrily): Where do you put it when you aren't serving someone's food?

Waiter: Up my (butt)

There's another term used instead of butt (3 letters including 2 s's). And that's not exactly how the joke goes but it's close enough, I suppose. ;D

I take it none of you ever worked in the restaurant business or an allied field

No, but I eat out a lot...
Casa: yup that's the obvious one; the "everyone will want one" is less well known.

Classic movie scene in an eatery: 5 Easy Pieces.

Re: Will Boston Radio/TV News "Duck" The Cover Story In Sunday's Boston Globe?

FOX25 did a segment on it tonight (Sunday) on their 10 PM newscast.

shocking...mice and vemrin in food establishments? I honestly could care less if a rat is running around back there as long as my food is prepared well and tastes good....after working in the food business for a bit, it's a problem that will never go away no matter how clean a place is. plus...some of the rats take much better care of themselves than some chefs

Ah, the taste of sauted rat legs in the summer with fava beans and a bottle of Chanti... ;)

What if it were like a Chinese restaurant, with numbered combo plates?
I'll have the Number Two please.
