Will KXAS Show all of the Jerry Lews MDA Telethon this year!!!

Was scanning ahead on my DirectTV guide and KXAS will join the MDA Labor Day Telethon at 7am on MONDAY morning. WTF!!!!!!!!

Is there not a local D/FW station that would be willing to take this away from KXAS. Is KXAS not willing to stream or at least show it on 5.2. Now that everyone is on DTV shouldn't KXAS be able to justify the cost of showing the local and national portions of the telethon on 5.2.
I understand it tough times, but why we (local D/FW viewers) can't see the begining of the show on KXAS. WGN at least can show the begining. But I live in Desoto, not Gary, Indiana or Naperville, IL.

Didn't NBC 5 start the telethon at 5am in the morning last year in place of news? It seem like they've been starting the telethon later, next thing you'll know they'll start it at noon next year....Geez. That's weird they would do that. I think NBC 5 has been hosting that telethon for years, maybe it's time for a new station to pick it up if they can't show the whole thing. Have you emailed someone in the programming department at NBC 5 to ask why they're starting the telethon so late.

Last year I did, and got some type of form letter answer. Its all about money I feel.

I have the Super Station package from Dishnetwork...and KWGN "Denver" and WWOR "New York" will carry it starting at 8 pm tonight.

Wow - what a concept! The light bulb over your head is ON!

Every tv station get PAID, LOTS of the production people get paid. TV stations arae a "license to steal." NOBODY GIVES FREE TIME when there is always a demand. Thatas' why LABOR DAY was chosen to begin with. Some stations discount the time (because it is a "low dewmand" weekend for advertisers.. That's WHY most of the movies they show this weekend, stink!

Same thing again this year. Come on KXAS put it on 5.2. Don't make me watch it on laptop.

WGN America plans to run the telethon from 10pm Sunday until 7pm Monday except for a Cubs game Monday afternoon.

But I don't care what goes on in Chicago. I live in Desoto, Texas. I want to see what's going on locally. I think the MDA will stream it online. "sigh"

Salem, I don't understand your apparent need to watch all 24 hours of this show. The goal of the show is to raise money. Entertainment is nice, but hardly unique. Send an extra 20 bucks and call it even.

Appears KPRC in Houston will start the Telethon at 11pm Sunday. Also noticed that on one of the Comcast leased access channels here (76) there is a graphic with promotional info about the telethon. This might be an alternate feed of the telethon while the main channel carries some NBC programming.

I'm not trying to watch all 24 hours. But why can't KXAS provide those folk who want to see the local portion of the MDA telethon a way to see it. I could absoultely watch the WGN coverage, but we have not way to know how much money North Texas has raised until 5am. Honestly I believe that hurts the money raised locally.

Of course, if the telethon does not start on KXAS until the morning of Labor Day, the phones would probably not be turned on until the telethon begins. That being said, viewers would pledge early online or by calling any of the numbers on the WGN version, though KXAS would not count anything until their own telethon starts.

Hasn't much of the local money already been pledged by corporate donors? Those are the check presentations we'll see on-air.

Hopefully, after he's gone, someone will write a book to share with the world (even those in France) what a 2 faced, vulgar and insincere guy Mr. Lewis IS.

His disdain for we "little people" his foul mouth and big ego, while doing theater and radio promotion interviews around the US is a fact.

I'd rather give to the Am Cancer Society.

This is Television. Stations and networks put up with prima donnas because they bring in ratings and dollars. Jerry Lewis's association with MDA-- regardless of any behind-the-scenes stuff-- has raised tons of money for MDA over the years.

I realize its all about the benjimans but Kxas will not even give up the overnight hours. Wow seesm MDA would go to a differnt station and get full clearance.

KXAS is not alone. MDA struggled to get full clearance across the country this year. It's CBS stations have tennis today. The NBC stations have golf. Even it's major nationwide affiliate, WGN America, had to pull away for its Cubbies. And if the show does get cleared on an alternate station, then the telethon has to compete with whatever is on the top stations. And producing it is expensive. Many people are volunteers, but many others have to be paid to make this broadcast happen. The end may be coming to this type of long-form fundraising.

Good riddance.

PS There has been a Cubs game on Labor Day afternoon that wgn carried in the middle of the telethon, for 10 years or more.

...and instead of the telethon, there is golf on KXAS right now.

NBC owns KXAS, and THOU SHALT NOT PRE-EMPT NETWORK PROGRAMMING when you are an O/O. I could understand not wanting to give up Sunday prime time. I could understanding wanting to wait to run the late local news, but INFORMERICALS and sign-off for maintanence (if that still happens) took precendence over a chairty telethon?

It is indeed time for MDA to buy time on another station. The problem is where can they go in this market? CBS owns KTVT, so they're out. Fox has no Sunday night or daytime programing , so KDFW might be a choice. KFWD could easily run the entire telethon without an issue. The catch, as has been stated before, does MDA think they can make more on KXAS with less than half the program aired than running the entire show on KDFW or KFWD?

This is thinking out of the box, but I wonder if MDA has considered partnering with TBN on the MDA Telethon. TBN has the nationwide program distribution infrastructure in place, plus they have studios complete with phone banks in most good-sized markets. Or in the annual MDA Telethon not a good fit at the home of the Praise-a-thon?
