Will local morning shows be a thing of the past?

Last time I checked, your local morning radio show was the only place to get local news, local weather conditions, local school closings, local birthdays, local PSA's, local info from merchants, local calls from local listeners, local travel advisories, local obituaries (should someone notable pass away), local sports, local lost dog/cat announcements, local fundraisers, local trivia and local announcers. In case you missed the point; no, local morning shows will never be a thing of the past as long as stations remember to keep it local.

Every single thing you mentioned can (and should) be done in every other daypart, too.

And what about this guy?

Personally, I'd rather listen to a topical, entertaining and funny show "from away" than a local effort whose idea of local content and relevance is to wish 9 year-olds Happy Birthday.

Yep, they're out there.

Speaking of live and local, Sunday evening while scanning the dial before bed time, I stopped at 'KIT and on comes Fred Zeppelin talking about the traffic backed up on 1-A near Lucerne because of the storm. NO OTHER station in Bangor could do that, not a single one. Kudos to the whole Zone Corp. crew

Could any other station in Bangor do that on a weekend after 10a, or, at best, 2pm Saturday? And speaking of Fred Z., he just may be the longest tenured weekender in Bangor. 20 years, give or take?

Not at 'KIT, but if you include his previous incarnations (which I'm sure you would know of True Grit) It would probably add up to that, yes.

I wouldn't want to embarrass him with his "Love"ly name from before, but I remember working with him at the Dudman complex back in 1990. So yeah, that 20 +/- has got to be accurate.

And he was there in '89 (if not even earlier than that)

Hey, True Grit...it was awesome to see you the other day. We miss ya, buddy. Undoubtedly, our little gang of radio misfits will one day gather once again to rule the airwaves for a short time...after all, you and I have a long history of doing so...why change now?

Yup, I'm almost certain Fred Zep worked for the Dudman stations before '89. I started with the Dudmans in the fall of '89, and Fred was there then.

Sticking with the subject, local morning radio shows will never go away. They'll probably be reduced to a single person show with a news person as the quasi sidekick. The necessity of localism will keep radio morning shows on life support.

They are quickly phasing out in CT. The Clear Channels, CBS's and ABC's of the corporate radio world are ruining local programming. If a local personality goes above a certain pay grade, corporate usually cans him or her and pipes in syndication. Very sad days ahead for local radio. ::)

Good seeing you, too. Sport. Wish I lived closer; I'd pop in more frequently.

As to the subject at hand, you are probably right. My concern is that the laundry list of things that a previous poster mentioned don't just happen in the morning; they happen all day...and all night.
