William, what is happening with WZFR-LP 97.7 Atwood, KY

Oh, thanks for the quick response. I see them listed on the WMWX 88.9 website now that you say it. 105.9 WCFS Du Quoin, IL is the only station left currently on the air on the choicefm website. But they have the AC format. So you currently do not have a station left for the hotter formats. I hope you are able to get others without the hotter network going under.

At one time I thought it was the goal of Bill Spry to bring christian rock and chr to Cincinnati but I guess that died when Air1 came to Cincinnati.

I don't think it died because of Air1, it's just where WZFR is, it's difficult to support an LPFM, especially with a Christian format (remember that WRHX was also Choice FM at one point).

I image raising money to support any LP station can be a problem since they have small coverage areas with weak signals. That could bring the question is Low Power stations really a very good idea or capable of surviving unless supported by a church or other organization. Or even have strong enough signals to make them worth while.

I had thought the full power station WMWX 88.9 was to be christian chr/rock before it became a secular station. Choicefm used to promote how they were getting a full power station in 88.9. The whole thing in getting a station started for him when he used to have a pirate christian rock station in the area wanting to bring christian rock to Cincinnati. Something happened to change Bill Spry's mind. I did not know there were many people who would send in money to support a commercial free secular formated oldies station in WMWX. I had figured it was Air1 that caused Bill Spry to change his mind about the format of WMWX because I also rememeber reading how someone was upset Air1 came in and before WMWX could get on the air. Maybe something else changed his mind.

But I just wanted to know what happened to to WZFR and only mention WMWX above because I know the original plans for it had been advertised differently but you said Air1 did not affect it. But I do not care about WMWX now or have any interest in a secular format station. So it does not matter anymore that we have to discuss it.

There are a few low power stations that will be coming on in Springfield, IL where I live. I hope they could be christian chr but they will be such low power I will not be able to get them in good enough to listen anyway. Low power stations should be allowed to be 250 watts to be any good for people to be able to pick them up. But the radio industry has fought that to avoid more competion.

Yeah, I knew that WRHX 107.9 was also Choice FM at one point. There was supposed to be all these stations that were going to bring christian chr to Cinncinnati as I was saying above.

Bill is really a great guy and a great Christian but he had to make the choice (no pun intended). I worked with Bill at Choice FM and Bill's heart is really with Christian Radio. He had to look at it froma a financial sand point. No money coming in, I can tell Bill and his wife Rhonda worked very hard to make Choice Fm work. You do not realize the thousands of dollars BIll spent out of his pocket to keep it on the air as long as he did. We worked Northern Kentucky very hard for support, businesses, churches and more and did not come up with enough to pay one months of expenses. Alot of people do not realize what Bill has gone through to get CHR Christian out there. He has been in battles like you would not beleve. Bill is still reaching Christians with ClassX the music is great and his whole station is family oriented. He has added a classic christian show, so his heart is still there. Bill had waited so long for is full power station , and almost lost it several times. Bill is a pioneer in what he is doing COMMUNITY RADIO. I wish Bill & Rhonda and ClassX a long time on te air!!!
