WINZ kills Imus, runs Rachel Maddow over and over and over again

In their ongoing show of not giving a damn about a radio station, WINZ has now dumped Imus and is running Air America's offering of Rachel Maddow in the morning. The problem is, it's a one-hour show. WINZ, in their infinite wisdom, is running it four times back to back, from 5am until 9.

A placeholder, perhaps, until the flip to sports happens?

What a waste of a signal. CC obviously never intended to try to make progressive talk work on 940.

The average listener doesn't listen for 4 hours or even 1. We really are reaching to complain here, there are other threads on here complaining that IMUS isn't a progressive.

Don't get me started on CC's doctrine. In my totally linear opinion it makes no sense to run a radio signal into the ground. But by the corporate yardstick any operation can become worth more as a loss at some point. Was it Reaganomics when the US Government encouraged farmers not to be successful and offered rewards for failure? Wait a minute! It just occured to me who the founders of Clear Channel worked for in the early 80s!

I personally have no opinion of Imus outside the fact that he has contributed heavily to the medium we love. Isn't that why we're here? And while it may be true that the average listener tunes in for less than an hour on the way to work, that still leaves a large portion of the listening public with a clunker all day and cheapens the product. Another practice that seems completely permissible to "corporate" but hard for me to wrap my head around.

Sure a company's got to make money, but I didn't ask CC to get into the radio industry and flush everything that made it great. And profitable, I might add.

So now it is a reach to say what a disgrace it is that any radio station in any market is replaying a show 4 consecutive times in order to fill the time? I suppose it would be okay if a music played the exact same songs for 4 straight hours, too. Traffic... weather... all the same... they never change, so we might as well run the exact same reports for those for 4 straight hours. I thought this board was for people who actually loved radio, the medium as a whole. They seek to improve it, to make it better, to actually make it something enjoyable to work in and something entertaining to listen to. As a citizen of this country (hopefully), you should be outraged to know that your public airwaves are being used for no redeeming purpose whatsoever. Do you see television stations doing that? Of course not. They're not that stupid. But then again, I guess if they were doing it, we'd be reaching to complain about it.

Do I think it is stupid? You bet. The point I was making is will a progressive listener be more interested in Maddow or Imus?
