WIOD Miami heard from GlobalTuners receiver in St Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia

Since all the other spots in the US have been busy lately, I decided to get in some last minute AM winter season DXing.

I heard a weak barely audible signal on 610 and since WIOD was not coming in well at all here at the time, I went to their online audio stream and it was sure enough them with not much of a delay.

And it was all alone too.

It then faded and now there is a Spanish speaking station which I presume is Cuba.

I'd check 780. Radio Coro from Venezuela has been making it tonight to Massachusetts. Also, there are a few 730s from VA and NC that are making it to Ontario. And, 940 WINZ too!

EDIT - I'm on now - checking for DX.
Weak SS on 790 - cannot tell who it is
770 WABC New York not affected
760 XEABC Mexico City, DF!! "ABC Radio" ID at 2155 ET
600 Radio Rebelde Cuba // 5025 at 2158
660 WFAN New York not affected but fading
670 Radio Rebelde Cuba // 5025
730 XEX? Spanish all alone, not CKAC, vy weak 2201
850 unid in English - could be WFTL Ft Lauderdale FL

The Spanish station is Cuba for sure.

Interesting thing is, it's about as weak here in Tampa on my radio as it is all the way up there!

Isn't R. Reloj on 790? I seem to remember hearing them in St. Pete...daytime....last month on my rental car radio. No trace of the Miami 790, which I believe has been on an STA "forever" at increased power in order to deal with Cuba.

Yes, Radio Reloj is on 790 and can be heard year round all day and night in Tampa.

If it weren't for 620 WDAE, the Cuban station on 610 could probably be heard daytime too.

WIOD is usually listenable a lot of the time here at night but last night I couldn't hear but a trace of them at best, yet they were heard way up in Nova Scotia.

I thought I remembered hearing R. Reloj midday in the car last month. But the more I think about it, I seem to remember that it actually wasn't alone. But rather, I'm pretty sure the Leesburg 790 was in there with it. Definitely not Miami.

As for WIOD or Cuba on 610...not a chance. Where I was on Treasure Island, WDAE on 620 was a monster! Especially with its noisemaker turned on.

WAXY Miami actually can be heard all day on 790 along with WLBE and Radio Reloj here in Tampa. Very weak, though.

All those stations are even stronger out at the Gulf daytime less than 20 miles west of here where another station is in the mix too but I never have been able to get any ID.

KBME Houston?

Miami to Tampa is 100% land but Miami to Nova Scotia is 100% water. It's theoretically possible for WIOD's signal to be stronger in Nova Scotia than in Tampa.

Yes, it is.

I'm very aware of how saltwater not only greatly improves daytime ground paths but also nighttime skip as well.

Here in the western part of Florida at night, WABC is hard to hear most of the time and even when it comes in at it's best, it's nothing like how it does on a regular basis on the east coast of Florida.

This is from when I was at Daytona Beach and the signal was steady and strong like this every time I checked that night.

Here in Tampa, WIOD can be quite listenable at times at night but then it gets completely lost at times too.

I've tried numerous times for WABC on my visits to the Tampa Bay area. No luck yet.

Back to 790... I'm wondering if the 790 you heard 20 miles out into the gulf could have been Pensacola (WPNN). If WSHO can make the hop on 800 with only a kilowatt from New Orleans, my guess is that 1kw WPNN probably could do it as well. As for my own experience in St. Pete, I'm pretty sure that the only thing I had in the car in addition to R. Reloj, was WLBE. I don't remember a third station (WAXY), but what I was hearing was all quite weak and in the car, I was subject to occasional power line interference and other noise.
