Miami/Fort Lauderdale WIOD Morning Drive

I'm a truck driver so I end up in different parts of the state. Sometimes I'll listen to WIOD 610 in South Florida. I like news talk in the morning. WCCF, when I'm near home in Port Charlotte, WFLA in the Tampa Bay Area Etc. It had been two or three weeks since I listened to South Florida's morning news on 610 WIOD, tuned in this morning and it was Ryan Gorman instead of South Florida's Morning News. Can't stand his show. Familiar with him from WFLA 970 in Tampa Bay. Always thought his show was boring, and it ticks me off that they fired Jack Harris to put him on the air in the first place. Used to love the Jack Harris Morning Show on WFLA.

No information on the station website besides the updated schedule. Can't find any local news articles about the switch or anything of that nature. Just wondering if anybody has some insight on how it switched from South Florida's morning news with Andrew Colton (wasn't the biggest fan of Andrew Colton, but the morning ensemble usually kept me entertained and somewhat informed, liked it way better than Ryan Gorman). And did Ryan Gorman make the move from Tampa Bay to Miami or is he syndicated out of Tampa? Genuinely curious on all of this, any information is appreciated since I can't find any

I had someone mention this to me in passing last week, but iHeart hadn't made any announcement about it and then got overwhelmed with all their layoff news.

Gorman's show is being syndicated to Miami from WFLA Tampa.

WIOD has some good people but, man, Miami is such a rough market for news/talk. Demos it needs just aren't there. Combine that WIOD's, not to mention WINZ's and WQAM's sticks are in Miami-Dade when the bulk of their potential listenership resides in Broward. In the last two decades, all of their signals have deteriorated.

Such a shift from the days when WIOD was a big deal, personality talk station. Neil Rogers, Ron Bennington, Phil Hendrie, Tom Leykis, Randi Rhodes. I know times change, but that station used to be something special.

It is a rough market for English news/talk but not for Spanish news/talk where there seem to be many, Radio Mambi and the new 1140 WQBA prime examples.

I was going to agree with you but then I took a look a recent ratings for WAQI and QBA. Mambi used to be a top 5 station! I will say this - there sure a a LOT of Spanish language news/talks but none have big ratings. Just like their English speaking counterparts, the audience for what they deliver is OLD. Plus younger demos, English or Spanish speaking - listen to FM.

The reason why Mambi fell so hard is because a Soros-funded company purchased it. Not because any programming changes, but the owners instead. The listeners scrambled to other Spanish-language talk stations like Radio Libre, Actualidad 1040, WWFE La Poderosa or just switched to FM.

I wasn't looking at it from a ratings perspective, which I know none of them have amazing ratings. I was looking at it from an options perspective in which there are more in Spanish than they are in English.

The best news/talker in town in terms of ratings? Public radio station 91.3 WLRN-FM.

Is WIOD at their new transmitter site? I'm listening to the Marlins here in western Broward and it's never sounded better, especially compared to WINZ.
Yes. It's been at the Krome Ave site south of Tamiami Trail for a while now. I visited last March and WIOD was already completely gone from the old North Bay Village site.

Oh, ok. It sounds great, although I actually haven't listened to WIOD in years; I just happened to today because the Marlins were preempted on WINZ. The broadcast sounds muddier on 940 compared to 610, and when the sun goes down in my part of Broward WINZ all but vanishes.
