Wish WPRO had a serious morning news person

I was thinking the same thing this morning. I like Bill, but some mornings he is silly and will talk too fast.

Also, JD is always sticking his two cents in trying to be funny.
 
It's morning drive, it's supposed to be lighter. Where else would you recommend putting Bill? In my opinion, he has all the makings of being a long time staple on RI radio, and somebody we can look back at years from now... The singing news man... I think the things about him that annoy you are the same things that endear him to many others.
 
Is Bill the news guy who's on with Buddy? Whoever that is is wonderful and fits beautifully.
I don't listen to Depetro so it may be the same dude... but I cannot imagine that guy having any fun with Depetro.
 
If Bill was on WHJY with a Paul and Al show, then yea. He's on a serious news station. Really all I'm saying is Bill should be serious , when doing the News. He reads the news very well, but I'm tellin yea, people ,listeners, call him a Hippie or a Crack Pot. The Silly news guy. I don't think the rest of the News staff likes that at all.

I get what you are saying. You want WPRO to sound like WINS or WBZ. Hardcore News people who don't joke. If WPRO was an all News ststion I'm sure it would be like that. But we are dealing with a station that is comfortable with goofing around. They like it that way. They must. Nobody is telling Bill to stop. Looks like you are out of luck with this one.
 
Unless, of course, 790 returns to being all-news WEAN. But the expense would be astronomical despite what would have to be an uptick in listeners.
 
Yea, guess youre right Skynet. Name one other News person who does the News in a Silly fashion on WPRO? See, thats the thing, WPRO is a serious News station, except for Habby. thats all Im saying.

Look back in the history of the station and you'll see plenty of reporters/anchors who were serious when they had to be and light and non serious at other times. Milt Fullerton, Laurie Johnson, Greg Perry, Rory O'Neill & Bud Toevs, just to name a few, all had their points where they played along with the hosts (be it Salty & Larry, Larry & Coach, Ron, JD, etc) and yucked it up or were the straight man for the morning host. Let's also give Bill credit as he's been there for almost 20 years now, longer than any other radio news person I can think of in the Providence Market.
 
All I'm saying is , The News is Serious. EVERY other WPRO reporter is very SERIOUS = PROFESSIONAL. I like Bill on a personal level, if he read the News in a serious way, that would be the RIGHT thing to do. Thats all I'm saying.

At least WPRO still maintains a local news presence, which is something you can't say about many other stations in the market.

I happen to think that a news person's abiltiy to be flexible enough to be able to yuck it up a little and be a bit light from time to time is actually a GOOD thing.
