With the new networks coming on board, what about the independent stations?

With the WB and UPN merging to becoming the CW and the upstart My Network TV; what will happen to the stations that didn't get affiliated with either of the two nets?

Will they be able to survive in a 6-10 station market or will they slide into oblivion?

Or, are we going to see a lot of OLD tv shows popping up?

You're not going to see many changes; after all, there aren't many - if any - NEW stations. The two new networks just replaced two old ones, and while some stations that had a network are now independent (and vice versa), there will still be the same number of total independents as in the past.

Hey, I just realized something--if My Network TV is scheduled to debut Sept. 5th and The CW Sept. 18th, then we'll have seven networks for two weeks (ABC, CBS, FOX, MNTV, NBC, UPN, and The WB)!

I wonder how this will work. The new MY Affiliates (in my area both WCTX, WWOR) will have two networks they are obligated. Maybe WWOR will not air UPN as they were upset about the CW. Don't know if any MY affiliates will air both MY and UPN/WB back-to-back. But, they will probably drop the two defunct stations on the 5th.

I read in the Chicago Sun-Times for the FOX O&O stations the affiliations with UPN end August 31, 2006. I imagine that any other stations that are UPN or WB and going with "MY" will simply air the "MY" schedule at it's correct time and either not show or do whatever they normally do when they pre-empt any programming.

It makes no sense NOT to start with the My Network TV because they will have new programming earlier.

I don't think so. Nothing official yet, I think WB and UPN will shut down August 31. That is because the affiliations I believe run out on that date.

If that is true, CW stations will be on their own for two weeks.

KTXA in Dallas/Ft. Worth will air news programming in the former UPN time slots.

Both UPN and WB are still programming reruns. My local WB station is still ID'ing as "WB18". It's sister station switched from its UPN ID to a MY ID on Tuesday.

I believe some of the former UPN/WB affiliates running MYTV are burying the former networks' programming in overnight hours, or dumping it altogether.
