Within days two alt stations indie 1031 and g-rock in jersey gone cookie cutter

But a alt station like cd 101 in columbus ohio which doesn't get great numbers at all have been around for years. And the suits blew up a good alt station in jersey called g rock radio and replaced it with this chr format with dial global or something just piped in. And with indies replacement it is piped in mexican music yuk!!! What is going on why is this happening???Funny thing g rock radio use to be just like indie 1031 was then when they were sold in 2000 and press communications took over they flipped them to a mainstream alternative station. Now in 2009 a not needed chr when jersey has Z 100.

It really is sad i know i can get this music easily streamed but i like to support terrestrial radio but with the alt format it is getting hard.

So why all the flips yall

Its very sad for those of us that love the alternative format :(

Thanks

The format is done in the LA Entravision studios, not "piped in." Why would you think that?

Not only that, but they specialize in programming stations targeting Hispanics. It's funny out the Indie crowd seems to think that they had a huge audience and it didn't get measured because their audience wouldn't get caught dead with a PPM device. You would think that if they these many many listeners were passionate enough about the station, they would want to show it by wearing the device.

It kind of reminds me of religion. You cannot disprove that Indie listeners would not wear the device. So it's possible. You just need to have faith.

Geesh! At least Entravision tried something unique... Playing unfamilliar non mass appeal music is just that...music that doesn't appeal to the masses. They gave it a few years and they gave up after no real growth.

I know that i was sayin the chr in jersey where g-rock use to be is a piped in chr from dial global.

But back to my post why all the sudden flips of alternative rock stations?

The ratings have been a challenge for years. It's still very viable in a number of markets - but places where there is PPM (like L.A.) - operators are looking for more mass appeal formats.

"The format is done in the LA Entravision studios, not "piped in." Why would you think that? "

Because the same format with the same name is on in El Paso. If it is not piped in then the automation system is using the same "tapes".

Nah, it's the same name, but different lists based on market differences. Same format concept, different list.

It's so hard to find a name that is free to use, that when companies find one, they use it over and over. The reason is that a streamed station in New Hampshire is essentialy available in every state and territory, making them able to claim prior usage.

Entravision registered El Gato years ago in Dallas; they have a service mark and prior usage and can thus use it anywhere for any format.

David, now that Entravision has stuck a pin in both its KDL and Indie experiments, you think that's it for them in the English arena?

Entravision has several English language stations out of its total of 47... Classic Hits in El Paso, Classic Rock in McAllen, Country in Sacramento, as well as a multi-ethnic station in Miami, and a brokered international station in Houston. They even have a talk station on AM in El Paso in English.

They seem to use English formats when the occasion warrants.
