WJIP 1370 Ellenville Switches to Comedy, According to RadioInsight

The station had been simulcasting the talk format of WKIP 1450.
Can anyone confirm that this flip took place?
A few years ago, it was one of the few AM stations in the area broadcasting country music, as they had simulcasted WRWD 107.3
According to RadioInsight.com, 1370 AM (not sure if the callsign is still WJIP) is one of 12 Clear Channel stations in small/medium markets that were changed to the comedy format. It apparently will be airing a national feed from CC.

1370 WJIP comes in quite weak in the Poughkeepsie-Hyde Park area but I decided to give it a try. It is nothing more than brief stand up bits strung together. I did not even chuckle once. They were not the least bit funny, instead just plain dumb. Since WJIP in its various forms has been simulcasting a Poughkeepsie based station for years I assume there is no studio per say and no local programing, just as satellite receiver hooked to a computer and a transmitter. One odd thing the promos kept saying 1370 WJIP comedy 24-7. According to the FCC data base WJIP is a Day-Timer only with a 2 hour post sunset and when applicable pre-sunrise authority at very low power. I didn’t know stations still did that.
I know as a precursor to allowing daytime only stations stay on through the night the FCC allowed them to stay on 2 hours post sundown , which especially during the winter was supposed to help them compete in afternoon drive. However , I thought they had since let the affected stations stay on all night ,as they just interfered with each other just as much then anyway. I am much too far away to tell if they stay on post sunset.

1370 is still a daytimer, it's funny most people in the buisness these days look at you strange when you say it... they have never heard of such a thing. There were a few changes to get the 24 hour licence but at night the station only does about 7-10 watts... it was tested but the coverage was so bad everyone figured save the power.

It does have pre and post sunset authority - meaning they sign on before Sunrise.. 5:55am I believe. And the sign off at night 2 hours after sunset - which changes month to month. The latest is during August I believe like 9:45p or 10pm ...of course as they get later into the night the power does drop...

I am sure the 24/7 ids - is just someone not paying attention, not caring or not even knowing they aren't 24/7 --- I think the format is called 24/7 comedy so they just tagged on to that.

I agree - the presentation could be much better... weive together the bits better, set them up... even some stagers could make it flow better... plus the selection of weren't that funny at times. Might be better to have longer sets or even themes or something. Like I said it might help to have a jock that set everything up... Here's xyz from their show at the Hilton - in this set you'll hear...

all that takes time and money...
