WJKE (101.3 The Jockey) Sold to EMF/K-Love

Sad that Saratoga loses their local FM to simulcast K-LOVE which is already on 94.5 locally... wonder what will be next for Empire Broadcasting? They do have a translator permit for 94.1 (to relay AM 900), and they also have their AAA/Alternative station on 1160/106.1 (and the Business News station on 1240 which is a graveyard signal)

(Also it's unfortunately impossible to move 101.3 closer to Albany because you have WKLI on 100.9 and I think the Clifton Park tower with 102.3/96.7/104.5 is too far from Stillwater? Was thinking about that)

I go to Saratoga for the races a few times every summer and The Jockey was a regular presence at the track. I wonder if EMF really plans to offer a redundant simulcast of K-LOVE or plug Air-1, the more uptempo, CHR-ish CCM format, onto 101.3. I can't help but feel EMF's stations basically preach to the choir, reaching people who already buy into the message, but I guess since each believer reached or brought in potentially means tax-free $$$ for the organization, that doesn't matter.

Air 1 already has a presence in the area on 93.7 FM... both 94.5 and 93.7 were formerly a Classic Rock station owned by Galaxy Communications who exited the Albany market around 10 years ago... 94.5 changed to K-LOVE and 93.7 changed to Air 1 (Hence why I suggested moving 101.3's transmitter closer to Albany to have a more central signal for the market (similarly to 93.7) and spinning off 94.5; however the Clifton Park tower's too close to WKLI)

Here is an Update

EMF Broadcasting (Educational Media Foundation) has closed on its previously announced purchase of 2.9kW Hot AC WJKE-FM (101.3) Albany, NY, from Empire Broadcasting for $550,000. Empire also owns WABY-AM, WAIX-AM, WPTR-AM, WUAM-AM and W291BY-FM in Albany. EMF, a Christian radio broadcaster, is the provider of K-LOVE and Air1 Media Networks. Michael J. Bergner of Bergner & Co. brokered the transaction.

And then, a few months later, it finally happened. Empire pulled the plug on all stations including WABY when it was an oldies station when it became AAA "The X" for a short time went dark last month, because of Joe Reilly's retirement. No word on when the station will be back. I missed my favorite Bob Green when's he wasn't on middays on WABY on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings where he does an excellent job playing oldies as well and MOR standards. It was an amazing run, and I hope it's competitor WROW's "Magic 590/100.5" and WGNY-FM "Fox Oldies" would benefit from the loss of WABY (or "WABY Baby" as Bob Green called it).

If you have not read the news, here is an article from last month.
