WJKL-FM 94.3 (K-LOVE) now broadcasting from new transmitter site w/pix

Thanks for posting that Gilbert! Is today the first day they started using the new tower?

Is that the same building that houses the WLEY aux. tower?

The FCC granted the PTA and licence to cover for the new site on Thursday 6/24/2010 but they will still be at the old site for the next week or two I was told by their chief engineer. WZKL 91.7 Woodstock signed on last week and they want to go slow to make sure first viewers know to turn into 91.7 in the far northwest suburbs before they make the switch to the new site. They do not want to lose any listeners. When they do move to the new site it would be interesting to hear reception reports.

Where is the new site anyway? Looked like I-88 in the background of the photo, but I couldn't tell.

Actually, the building is an office park called Oakbrook Tower or something like that. The "Keller Graduate School" label that shows up on Google Maps is one tenant in the building, which is the tallest office building in west suburban Chicagoland.

WLEY-FM 107.9 also has an auxiliary antenna on the building.

It's just north of I-88 at Illinois 83.

Drove past it today on I-88 on my way to Michigan. That does look like a very steep roof. Glad I didn't have to put that antenna up!

Thanks for the info Scott. I did my research from google maps and it said "Keller Graduate School" I am glad to find the building is Oakbrook Terrace Tower.

Just curious Brian....who is their Chief Engineer? ???

Sam Wallington is Educational Media Foundation's Vice President of Engineering. That is who I meant. He is a nice guy.

OK...I thought maybe they had someone overseeing their Chicago area stations. I have heard good things about Mr. Wallington.

Thanks

I am sure EMF has a local engineer in every regional area like Chicago but I do not know who they are.

They do have an engineering presence in all their areas.. not only for reg upkeep but to ensure the stations stay on air and respond to any trouble reports from the EMF NOC. They however do use Contract engineers in a lot of their areas.

They have much better signal strength on the southwest side of the city. It is definitely a marked
improvement from the Elgin site.

From where I am, which is only a little farther from Oak Brook, than I am from downtown Chicago,
I would have to say it's about as good of signal as you can get without being a downtown station.

This is just in my area of course, I can't speak for the entire Chicago area.
