WJZY & WMYT-TV sold to the Fox TV Group...

Well, it looks like two television stations in Charlotte will soon be owned by the "Fox Television Stations Group", which means WJZY will probably become a Fox Affiliate, and WCCB, the current affiliate, will either go to "The CW Network" or become Independent again, could WAXN go to CW?, this will something interesting to watch in the coming months.

There is a column Mark Washburn has posted regarding the sale on the Charlotte Observer's web site, according to WCCB's owner, they are weighing their options, i think the hesitation is there for Channel 18 to pick up the "CW Network", but what else could they do?, i know they don't want to go to Univision or ION Television, which doesn't even get shown in North Carolina's largest television market, i would suggest trying to make it a strong independent as possible, and hopefully, WAXN will acquire the CW, but the previous post is correct, WCCB-TV is in for a hard time once Fox goes to 46 or 55.

Cox doesn't "need" CW on Action. They have a history of successful indy stations (WRDQ in Orlando, for one). It's primarily a vehicle to, in the case, rebroadcast WSOC news & maybe become the local home for a pro sports team. Beyond that, syndication city.

CW is a lost cause. I can't see Cox going after it.

I'm surprised the CW Network has lasted this long, they would be better off to dissolve, but since CBS has ownership in the network, that might not happen just yet, the same applies to My Network TV, another program service that needs to go away, and if that occurs, could Fox sell off WMYT to maybe ION Television?, i'm sure they would like to have a station in Charlotte.

ION Television hasn't bought anything in years. If anything, they'll sell.

WCCB is the loser here, indeed. I guess they could plug movies in from 8-10pm if nothing else...

Someone on another site suggested taking parts of the "Me-TV" schedule and run it, but the question is will WCCB keep their news in the morning and at 10pm?, i don't think this will happen, and chances are the new Fox Affiliate, probably WJZY(or whatever the call letters may end up to be) will spend money to put a top notch news operation in place luring many from Channel 18 to the new "Fox 46".

WCCB has been in this spot before. Anyone old enough to remember when they lost ABC to WSOC and NBC went to 36?

I can receive WJZY-46 and WMYT-55 here in Greenville, SC because they broadcast from a very tall tower in Gaston Co. I do not normally get WCCB at all. And I am sure the Fox network will end up on 46(RF47) because they are a full power 1000kw signal and WMYT is much lower power at 250kw on RF39. And 55 is hard to receive in Catawba Co. due to interference from WHKY-14 on RF40.

Also Channel 96.1 and Kiss 95.1 broadcast from the WJZY/WMYT tower with strong signals. Hopefully this will not change after the sale.

I don't think it would...
But also remember theres 2 other 2000 foot towers within 2 miles of the JZY/MYT site.
They can move to the WBTV-TV tower (home of WOSF, WLNK)
and theres also the WCNC-TV tower, which has no FM signals on it.

Tower rent is a good thing, doubt there will be a change there. As for WJZY and WMYT on the east side of Charlotte they are two of the most troublesome signals. The signals have drop outs, antenna aim is critical. WMYT is the worst of the two probably due to their lower power. I have no trouble with WCCB but then they are a lot closer. Fox has some good shows lately, I haven't looked at WJZY and WMYT in years.

You would think that combining two good networks UPN and The WB would have made one great network but the opposite happened. The CW is nowhere near as good as the two separate networks. As for MY it might be better to be an independent.

Poor WCCB they have some decisions to make! I wonder if they regret calling their station "Fox Charlotte" I never could understand why stations want to surrender their identity to a network. The question is how stable is the network/station relationships at WBTV, WSOC and WCNC. I'm assuming since these stations are owned by 3 very large groups (Raycom, Cox and Belo) we won't see any changes to their affiliations.

There were rumors about Capitol of Raleigh shopping WJZY and WMYT. Looks like the rumors were true!

WBTV has always been a strong performer for CBS, so I don't expect any changes there. Nor with WSOC which delivers good ratings for ABC. Perhaps NBC would like to see a better performer than WCNC, but they have that big broadcasting facility with the NBC News Channel, so I am not sure that would change either. And perhaps WJZY will eventually improve their signal. While they are full power, their digital antenna is still side mounted on the tower with the old analog 46 antenna on top. Maybe they will eventually place the digital antenna on top like WBTV with a stronger omnidirectional pattern. But I currently do receive both WJZY and WMYT very well here in GVL, SC.

Sometimes stations will trade affiliations to get a station they want in another market. Bahackel doesn't have much to offer, the other stations are owned by larger groups.

Time Warner Cable has "Prime Time On Demand" this cuts out the local stations completely giving you network TV on your schedule. So you have to wonder how long before local TV stations are history?

I agree. I don't see WCCB stealing any of the other network affiliations. I also don't see WAXN going after the CW. Cox has several other independent stations doing well in other markets. My guess is WCCB will be independent.

I wonder if WCCB would be permitted to put MeTV on their main channel? That would give the MeTV channel more eyeballs with satellite viewers since satellite does not offer sub-channels. Or, if Me would allow WCCB to cherry pick certain MeTV shows to run, say at night, because I would assume much of WCCB's daytime trashy talk shows (Springer comes to mind) probably do well.

The ONLY reason FOX news has ANY ratings is because they "piggy back" off the FOX network's shows . i.e. American Idol and Panthers games etc. WCCB's News personalities had better freshen up their resumes. I'd get the heck out of there!!

I have a feeling once Fox 46 begins in July, a lot of WCCB's News Personalities will make the move to them, Channel 18's days of News will be coming to an end.

Dirty Diana is right. The news at 10pm is able to build off of the FOX programming. When that's gone, they'll lose a lot of audience.

The only stuff WCCB has that's worth anything (ratings-wise) is Ellen, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Simpsons, Everybody Loves Raymond, and King of the Hill.

I'm guessing The CW will go there, but their numbers are awful, so they're going to lose a chunk of viewers. Were I WCCB, I'd actively work to acquire more scripted series because that's their best bet at bringing more viewers in.
