WKNA Senatobia and WKNQ Dyersburg to be sold

I found this on Radio and Records' Transaction page:

http://www.radioandrecords.com/radi...article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003523986

The major part of this transaction is that EMF is buying 7 stations and 11 CPs from American Family Radio, but EMF is also buying WKNQ FM 90.7 in Dyersburg and AFR is buying WKNA FM 89.9 in Senatobia. I'm really surprised at this because these have been NPR stations for decades, and I figured they would never be up for sale.

I'm really hoping that with EMF getting WKNQ that it will open the door to some of their existing K-LOVE stations in West TN changing to Air 1.

I know some people who aren't big K-LOVE fans won't like this, but if it wasn't for them there would be no CCM radio of any kind in West TN outside of Memphis, and I'm excited about the possibility of Air 1 coming to my area. ;D

What "full-power" frequencies are available? Would they try to buy 91.7 from the U of M? Given that they are chopped on the west by 91.9/KASU-Jonesboro, would that make sense?

I HATE to lose NPR Talk...

I actually wish that EMF had bought WKNA as well. They could move K-LOVE to WKNA and WKNQ, and then change most of their existing K-LOVE stations in Memphis to Air 1. As it stands now, Nenphis may still not have an Air 1 station.

I'm not sure what EMF was thinking. Air 1 almost seems like the most logical choice, and it would have some overlap. WKNQ doesn't appear to give K-Love much that they don't already have between Jonesboro, Union City and Ripley/Memphis. It seems like a whole lot of money for very little extra.

I'd guess that WKNQ will go to K-LOVE, and that Union City and possibly Ripley will go to Air 1. Also, EMF has a CP for a station in Brownsville that could possibly go to Air 1.

Apparently the change at WKNQ happened some time yesterday. 90.7 in Dyersburg is now K-LOVE. The next question will be if or when one or both of the stations in Ripley and Union City and the translators in Jackson and Brownsville will switch to Air 1.

"Hi, I'm Dick Jenkins, president of EMF. We know that we've just bought another 7 stations in your area. We know that we're building a footprint that would rival the greatest of all dinosaurs. But you are the one standing between people hearing KLove and the cold, desolate sound of dead air as we shut down our freshly bought stations. All we'll need is your first born son so we can sell him into slavery in Sudan (but shhh...we don't like Sudan) and the entirety of the 2nd mortage on your house. Just drink this Kool-Aid right here and we'll take care of the rest, here at Positive, Encouraging KLove!"
