WLBZ to shift 6 p.m. Bangor newscast to Portland

WLBZ has been slowly losing autonomy since the late 1980s. The longstanding news sharing arrangement with the Bangor Daily News ended a while back, replaced by a new partnership with the Portland Press Herald, a perfect metaphor for what is happening now. As of next month, news relevant to eastern and northern Maine will be mostly relegated to lesser-viewed time periods and online. The programming schedules of the two stations are gradually coming closer to full alignment. It's probably only a matter of time until WLBZ becomes a full satellite of WCSH. WABI and WVII must by thanking their lucky stars.
