WLS CUTS ANOTHER HOUR OF COAST TO COAST.

Anymore it's just the same old types of people who stammer and stutter their way and make it up as they go when being interviewed. And of course, the usual alien abduction stuff. After this post I reckon some of the guests will come up with names and conversations they had with the aliens who abducted them. For years it has been all "I was abducted, and this is what I saw."; and then there is the "higher self" crap of late.
Are you actually going to miss that?

Hopefully they'll eliminate it soon.

Only about 20% of the time C2CAM is actually worth listening to...so if WLS cuts back C2CAM's airtime 80% that will be about right. ;)

I think you're over estimating it at 20%.

WLS is no longer an option for hearing Coast To Coast in my opinion. At least there are other stations that carry the show. They're cutting out the very meat of the show and often the last 2 hours are the best.

I think yesterday in the 4 AM ET/3 AM CT hour, some guest was on the show promoting something happening in Chicago. Knowing about WLS' trimming of the show, it makes me wonder if they actually heard this interview!

And while I'm on the subject of "C2C" on WLS... Recently, sister station WABC in New York has hired Doug McIntyre from KABC/Los Angeles to do the 5 AM ET hour, prior to "Imus", filling a vacancy left by Charles McCord, who is moving with the rest of the "Imus" crew to a new studio to accommodate Fox Business Network, so Chuck will no longer do the 5 AM news hour. Anyway, some speculate that McIntyre wants to bring back his popular "Red Eye Radio" show in L.A. And that New York could also pick up the show. With all of the cuts WLS has done on "Coast To Coast," I wonder if they would follow suit, too.

The best thing for WLS-AM to do is to simulcast with their sister FM. This way, WLS-AM can go back to being a music station and cut cost. WLS is known for Rock-n-Roll all over the county, so let it rock on the AM while we still have AM listeners. Makes sense to me.

My sports guy came running in here this morning and telling me WLS-AM is going dark. I told him Citadel isn't going to let that happen, but putting the FM on the AM would work best and be a cost cutter. Too much talk on AM anyway and I can find Coast to Coast on other Class "A" stations.

Just my opinion, but what do I know.

Wasn't always the way it is now. Not sure what happened. Maybe the guests are all paying to be there, considering they give their website addresses and all that stuff.

The times I've listened recently (admittedly not very many), they were broadcasting reruns. Also, Art Bell is not on that often anymore, as far as I can tell. Perhaps that is part of the reason. Also, maybe people are just getting tired of hearing conspiracy theories. OTOH, I don't know what their ratings are currently; maybe the show is doing just fine and it's just too expensive for Citadel to air it. My main gripe is that after dark, it's on just about every usable AM frequency, which makes for very few program choices.

Somebody has to pay for all those phone lines: east of the Rockies, west of the Rockies, Wildcard, etc.

WMAQ was great back then, with WLW coming in much later into the mix. BTW, I am a truck driver who used to be in radio. That being said, my thoughts:

The Midnight Radio Network show on WLS (Based out of WBAP in Dallas) is lame. They actually have only 15 minutes of substain talk per hour. The rest are spots. they are also very non-union, which alienates a lot of truckers who are out there burning the midnight oil. WLW (who I have not listened to recently) is too political in focus and too many of the same callers.

The way to do it, is to have host(s) who have a clue about trucking. Not driving beside one on the way to work every night. Actually CDL qualified, and experienced. Have guests with wide raging genres (trucking law, technical nerds, etc) who work for respected companies. (Sorry Gary, Prime is not one of those companies) on for more than chatter between commercials.
Also, throw some tunes on. Oh, BTW, it does not have to country music. Maybe a nice blend of country, rock, and some old pop.

Thanks Bobby for bringing this up, and thanks again for turning off the caps. For some reason, it was like my wife yel..er..talking to me :)
