WLVC-LP 93.3 License to cover, WFYN-LP allegedly already on air.

According to LPFMDatabase.com, this station has put their CP on the air with just 12 days to spare. Tower is alleged to be atop 400 17th St. South.

Their share-time partner WFYN-LP claims on their Facebook page that they began broadcasting on January 10, though they apparently have not filed for a license to cover yet. Their CP expires on January 30. Tower is supposedly at Allcom Wireless' tower by the airport.

I have not heard either station yet, so can anyone confirm?

Also, WVXV-LP's CP for 94.1 has apparently expired unbuilt as of January 8 but has not been deleted yet.
I would assume that one of the 93.3 sharetimers will make a move to 94.1 to get out of the sharing agreement.

By the way, I was in Five Points South last night during the hours that WLVC is allegedly broadcasting and just a few blocks from their transmitter and heard nothing from them.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

I can confirm that WFYN-LP is indeed on the air. I heard them clearly in stereo just after noon today in Homewood with Living Streams Ministries programming, then two old fashioned hymns (one was 'a cappella'), a station ID as "Birmingham's local Christian station, WFYN-LP" (somehow leaving WGIB out of that equation!) and then into another Living Springs Ministries program.

As of yet, WFYN still hasn't applied for their license to cover and their CP expires in 9 days. I don't know if the government shutdown helps, hurts, or has any effect on their filing.

That's a good question. I *think* the FCC will remain open and "business as usual" until near the end of the month. So they will have no excuse if they don't get that filed pretty soon.

Edit to add: When you listened for WLVC, was it during the time they're supposed to be on? My understanding is they operate in a time share agreement with WFYN. WLVC operates 1 pm to 1 am and WFYN operates 1 am to 1 pm.

Yes, it was just after 12 PM when I heard them on the car radio. I didn't have any way to record it. A later check on the frequency showed no sign of WLVC, so I can assume that WFYN signed off at 1 PM with no one to take over on the channel. LVC's transmitter is supposed to be a lot closer to my QTH, so I'm sure I would have heard something.

WFYN-LP filed a license to cover on the 22nd, so they should be good to go now.

I spoke to someone helping to run WFYN-LP and he said he believes he did finally hear WLVC-LP on the air. They played a few gospel songs with no ID, then stayed on the air with dead air all night and all during the time WFYN-LP was on, so the two signals were fighting it out.

Sounds like the WLVC-LP people might not know exactly what they are doing!

I saw that. Let's just say that some of the LPFM licenses seem to have gone to shadowy organizations that would struggle to run a lemonade stand. Launching a radio station in this day with not even any (FREE!) social media presence, let alone an actual website or stream is mindboggling.

And I still think that shared time licenses were a bad idea 50 years ago and an even worse idea today.
