WLW, please be merciful and rid us of Tracey Jones asap. It's becoming painful.

Tracey Jones isn't going anywhere unless he gets caught doing something nasty with farm animals. Might as well get used to him.

Personally I have no problem with him, or the WLW lineup, because I understand - and know - that they are trying to get you fired up, call in, and get you to talk about them. It's a form of entertainment, and Parks has nailed it judging by the posts here and all the media coverage that the station gets. Forget about the heritage of WLW, that all went out the window when Randy Michaels showed up decades ago.

This isn't rocket science, folks. It's radio. Ratings & Revenue rule, and you have to get them any way possible.

I really can't see how having an annoying radio host is some sort of secret weapon used to keep people listening.

If a host continues to contribute as little as Jones does there's no way people will continue to listen. Not drinking that D. Parks Kool-Aid.

There's no way to think the station is NOT in a major funk about its daily line-up.

Red, you are so right on target that they nobody else even needs to pick up darts.

I can't *stand* Tracy Jones and won't listen to anything he does, but he's got the number one afternoon show on the number one station in town. Folks like it...Eddie Fingers got fired cuz of money, not ratings.

it is *all* about ratings and revenue. All of it. Nothing else matters. It's a business.

Hmm... then explain to my why 700 WLW's forums closed down about a year ago? I think the station was taking too much heat from it's listeners, essentially closing off any way for the listeners to vent about how much they hated what was on the station. Yeah.. That's a GREAT way to keep listeners... ::)

Howard Stern might beg to differ.

Comparing Tracy Jones to Howard Stern is like comparing Apples to Oranges or a Volkswagen to a Semi-Truck.

Both of them are on COMPLETELY Different levels.

Tracy Jones couldn't hold any type of light to Howard Stern. Tracy Jones is chump change-- plus he would never survive even if he went to Satellite radio.

Radio stations having forums is just asking for trouble. Even the best radio station in the world with a message board will still have trolls. It's a lose-lose situation for the station. Heck, look at the Enquirer's comments section - it's an unmitigated disaster.

If you think that WLW is losing listeners since those forums shut down, the ratings say otherwise.

Your hatred towards WLW is amazing. Maybe you'd be better spent finding a new hobby and moving on. The glory days aren't coming back.

Sure, they are on completely different levels - but you're missing the point here and over sensationalizing.

People are listening to hear what he'll say next.

Ratings & Revenue. Again, ratings & revenue. Learn it. Know it. Live it.

Hmmm.... I wonder RedGreen if you ARE Tracy Jones. Wouldn't surprise me really.

I guess you really LOVE everything about WLW, right? Another Corporate Suit from a Corporate Radio station.

Glad I never worked for Clear Channel. What a Joke.

People are listening to hear what he'll say next.

When Tracy Jones says the SAME TRITE THINGS OVER and OVER and OVER (Female Callers Weights and Ages and if they are married...etc... etc... WTF does that have to with any conversation on the air?) Yeah. I'm sure people want to listen to that--- OVER and OVER and OVER... ::)

The media circus zoo that WLW turned into with the clowns that broadcast on there would make Powell Crosley turn over in his grave.

I worked in radio, but never for Clear Channel.

I don't love WLW, but recall what I said earlier - it is entertainment, and I do not take it seriously. They do their jobs, and they do their jobs well - for the most part.

Powel Crosby has been dead for 50 years. WLW is a much different station since then. If you don't like it, fine - don't listen. Continually pining for the glory days when they will never return is getting you absolutely nowhere.

It must be fun to live in the past.

Powell Crosley? Powel Crosby? He was Powel Crosley; c'mon guys.

Here is the question I have: are any of the "talent" at WLW making a living wage, aside from Willie, Jim Scott and maybe Tracy (although I doubt it; he has a baseball pension)? My guess is no. That's where radio is now. Air talent who make enough to pay an mortgage and feed a family are few and far between, because companies like Clear Channel have discovered that people will listen to any hack who can stir up the mouth breathers. The audience doesn't demand a quality product, so why pay for one? Most stations don't have anyone live on the air, not 24 hours a day. It's not necessary. They are weaning people off of the expectation of a high-quality product by eliminating the real talent one by one, until no one expects any better than part-timers and the guys who are in it for the free promotion time (Bulldog).

I'm not saying that WLW should live in the past, but at what point do you draw the line between ridiculous and just plain stupid... As touting themselves as "The Nation's Station", you would think that they would have a bit more credibility to the people that they have on the airwaves.

I've never been a fan of Tracy Jones. From the first time I heard him on the radio, my thought was "Is this the best that 700 WLW can do?" Giving a former washed up mediocre at best Baseball player a radio program. Jones off kilter commentary is best suited for doing a postgame baseball show... NOT an afternoon live drive show....

I was in a hurry and the fingers were flying. Sorry 'bout that.

Sometimes it's not the best who will grace the airwaves, but the ones who will work for peanuts. While Jones may be a "former washed up mediocre at best baseball player" he does have a full-time business as well.

While I am not disagreeing with what you're saying, there's also a vanishing talent pool thanks to consolidation and other factors. There's also the old joke that WLW = Way Low Wages.

WLW isn't number one in the afternoon because Tracy Jones is good. It's the signal. They could put just about anything on there and people will listen, partly out of habit. And as has been stated here, for the news and traffic-commercial-weather together.

+1 Keys
WLW could run 10 year old Gary Burbank shows in place of Tracey Jones and would still be #1. I don't want to give CC any ideas. :)

What I don't understand is why they keep pairing Jones up with other hosts. It only highlights his lack of talker abilities.

This can't last too much longer.

They had the same signal back when Randy Michaels took it over and it wasn't number one. Granted, there was more competition then, but I just don't think the signal is the *only* reason the station does well. It's a big part of it, but not the only thing.

<sigh> Brian, yes it can. It is the number one afternoon show on the number one radio station in town. It is not going anywhere. Ratings and revenue. Ratings and revenue. Ratings and revenue. I can't stand the show either; it's why I DON'T LISTEN TO IT.

Up here, the WLW sister station now known as WTAM/1100 couldn't draw flies from 3-6 PM. Same monster signal, same ownership.

They tried everything...from popular former FM morning hosts ("Jeff and Flash") to a host of other talented local names (Danny Wright) and imports (Rich Michaels, Jaz McKay, etc.).

The station only became #1 after moving new "Sportsline" host Mike Trivisonno from evenings to PM drive, eventually scooting him up from 4-8 PM to 3-7* PM (* - give or take Indians/Cavs pre-game, Triv's propensity to rerun segments after 6, etc.).

Triv is a buffoon on the air, and verbally assaults the English language with every sentence that struggles to get out of his mouth....but he has been number #1 in PMD (for the most part) for years.

because he's a "regular guy". The person who pulls off the guy on the corner bar stool that everyone likes even better than Triv is Corby on WTVN. Knows sports, ex jock, has done just about everything and always has a story to tell. Recipe for success.
