Point taken, Matt. Although the sarcasm in your next post does make it sound like you are defending the stunt as merely radio humor. But I stand by my assertion that WLW's tactics just to get people talking are unnecessary and seem to take precedence over improving the actual programming. I believe I noted that WLW is more fun to listen to than many other stations of the same genre. Nothing wrong with fun, entertaining radio. But where do you draw the line on mocking someone's pain and misfortune? Cancer? Paralysis?
As far as the suggestion that some of us are "appalled" by these kinds of stunts, I've been around for a while and very little appalls or surprises me anymore. But the cultural desensitization to someone's serious health issues in the name of radio is a sad thing, imho.
Arbitorn, I have long respected your point of view on this board, and I certainly agree about our boy Mike Brown. But this promotion seemed closely linked to the Reds franchise. Technically no. But in the minds of many listeners, WLW and the Reds are one. And WLW goes to great lengths to impress this upon its listeners. They benefit mightily from their relationship with the Reds and we all know it. So I have to respectfully disagree on this one and side with Mr. Castellini.
