WLYN 1360 and WAZN 1470 are now live on the internet!

Will WJIB stream? (maybe music rights issues, but even my WMWM streams both live DJs and automation...
not sure if cost would be too prohibitive or not)

Both streams are on what is called an Icecast server, at 56kbps.
Normally, we use Winamp here as a player - it is quite stable,
and buffers quickly...

they are working here! ( at home on my laptop)

On mozilla they play for about 10 seconds, because that's how my browser is set up, but in Winamp, RealAudio, or Windows Media player they will go on for as long as the box in the back room works ( yes sometimes they need to be rebooted) and the streaming host is up and running.

If you paste the URL into a media player it will stream endlessly. It's to bad the URL isn't formatted as MMS:// or a .MP3 that would default to your media player of choice in your file association preferences.

How Grady has it set up is a Barix box for each station, that will support 6 connections. If you don't have a Barix box, they can be a sweet setup for doing remotes VOIP where the remote site has a internet connection btw

One connection is at the transmitter as a backup for the telco line should it go down, one is for the streaming host, then there are 4 for corporate use, and that could be another MRBI station rebroadcasting our stuff in another market (we used to run one of our NY stations at night, in theory they could run us) Jeff, Grady, Scott or I could be checking the audio at the rack. We don't divulge that URL to anyone.

The streaming company adds a bunch of capacity we don't have for public listening.
Since many of our customers have friends and family around the world, it would not surprise me if the streaming server was getting a lot of connections from Puerto Rico, Brazil, and the various Soviet republics.

For the record:
WLYN is mostly broadcast in Brazilian Portuguese,
with a little Spanish on Saturday mornings, Italian mid-day on Sundays

WAZN is broadcast in Russian weekdays, the remaining time
is currently simulcast with WLYN.

Me, personally - I take high school French many, many moons
ago. I don't understand this either! :D

Aren't they non-commercial now?

The sound exchange rate for non-commercial stations is around $500/year

So it's not the thousands/tens of thousands/more that commercial broadcasters have to pay in music rights to stream.

I think you'll find that WJIB is a licensed commercial station. Just because Bob doesn't sell spots isn't going to get him off the hook with the licensing folks as far as payment for use of music goes.

I also suspect that is why WJIB has not encoded for PPM, why hand ASCAP and BMI the data to kill your bottom line, make them work for the data, and hopefully they will find it is going to cost them more to get the data than they will collect in increased fees.

This is just pure speculation on my part btw.

make the pirates walk the plank!

Just a thought. After all, Al Capone finally went to jail for tax evasion.
It was the only charge that the feds could make stick! (sorry, I just
watched The Untouchables film the other day, is fresh in my mind...)
